LT Murray Wildlife Area
« on: August 14, 2008, 08:31:09 PM »
Quick question....

My Dad was drawn for a disabled access permit for the North Riggs Canyon area of the LT Murray Wildlife area.  He has access via vehicle for the first 4 days of Modern Elk season.  Does anyone have any information on this area.  Perhaps someone has had this disabled access pass before.  Any help would be great.

Thanks!

I have hunted this area with my dad before, my question to you is this a any elk tag or something else? The deep canyon that runs along the disabled road does hold elk, pay close attention to the end of the canyon that is to the south elk like to use this area a lot they come up from manastash road. caution this canyon is very steep and deep. The ridge to the south of the disabled road is nice, its rolling sage hills leading down to the main road. very open!!! This area does get other hunters in it on foot. Let me know if this helps you out.

Great info...I am going to go scout it out for him ahead of time.  Steep canyon and a very bad ticker don't go together well....I guess that where the helpers get to earn their keep. Its still subject to the spike only season.  Did you have any kind of luck?

Do what my Dad does.   Have him shoot it and you go get it.  He just sits in the truck talking to you via a radio, drinks coffee, talks to people who walk by.   If you bring the head up first he has some thing to talk about.   Just remember it is his hunt not yours.  Your just the free labor...

Absolutely...couldn't agree more.  And trust me, he'll be sitting and watching all the work while drinking his coffee.....he has 4 sons for labor....that's a quarter apiece....

Who of the brothers is going back down for the head?  Flipping a coin, rock / paper / scissors, pick a number between 1 and 100...

That is when it gets fun... The others are up by the truck yelling a the losser to get going.  Laughing...  Ahhh  good memories for the winners.    :)

In the past, we have packed the head out and then had my Dad come to where he is comfortable, hide in the trees with the pack on and then we'll start filming his trek back to the truck.  By the time he gets to the truck he is winded....and then he goes into this long story about packing for days to get it out.....It's all about making memories!
