scouted my dock for crabbing. Wish me luck
« on: July 16, 2012, 03:33:58 PM »
We went to the dock where we're going to throw my fishing net crab pot tonight to do some low tide clamming/crab scouting.  No clams.  Crap mud.  Not worth digging in.  We did get 20lbs of mussels from the dock in about 10 minutes.  Also found these:

Hoping to get a couple of those big red rocks tonight.  One of the neighboring homeowners told us the Dungeness don't really get down that way too much.  A few but not many and they're way deeper than I'm going to be able to throw the trap.  Wish I had an intertube or something I could float out about 100' off of the dock and drop the trap.  Something to look at in the future I guess

Those shells look like an Octopus is working the area.  Good luck anyway....

A lot of the Crab shells that we see still pretty much intact are from molting.

:yeah: There is a way to tell if it is from an octopus, or from molting, but I forgot  :P

Well, it worked, sort of.  Wife has all the pics.  1 7" red rock and about 75 dungeness under 5" in 3 hours.  I just don't think I can throw it out far enough to get into the big ones.  Kids had a blast though.

Going to get an inner tube and paddle my way out about 200' from the dock next time instead of the 20' I can throw the trap.

Crab is in the pot now.  good for a snack for the kids anyway.
