Is there any chance a bear could have taken it?

i suppose its a possibility. The tree wasn't scratched up. If a bear did its still a butthole!

I'm sorry for your loss.
How was it attached to the tree? I am using one of those cable locks but I'm sure they are not bolt cutter proof

Of coarse you had a security box and python lock on it correct?

I feel your pain, I had one taken last year. I use a metal box lag bolted to a tree and a Python cable now. Thieves SUCK!!!
