Whats the cost?
« on: July 24, 2012, 06:16:59 PM »
What's the average cost of getting a rug made out of a 250 - 300 lbs. bear?  Any ideas?  I would like to know ball park figures if I am lucky enough to go shopping.

Thanks!

Most taxi's run about 160-180 on avg. If it was that big of bear good chance it would be around 6' range. So 960-1080. Then your tax if you have it done in washington 1040-1100.

Is it all the cash up front or does it vary?

Some take cards, some only take cash. Most will only take a deposit, some only a couple hundred others 50% down.

I just got back my wifes bear rug back and it ran me $703. Her bear was 5'6 3/4 nose to tail and was up in the 200 # range. Puyallup valley taxidermy did the work.

A bear that weight will likely be 6 to 6 1/2 feet. Some taxis charge about $150 per foot for a rug, give or take.

That is as cheap as I have heard of in a long time. Was that for a rug with felt and tax? That's only like 125 a foot.

Yes sir $125 a foot plus and extra $50 to skin the head from the skull. $703 was done and walking out the door.

Plus he must not have charged you tax. Man you got a heck of a deal!

Not in this thread but will you post pictures later. Or maybe you have and I missed them.

If you want a felt border, or even a two tone border it costs extra per foot of bordering.

That is not always the case. A 2 tone border from the taxidermist that I use do not cost anymore. They are the same price.
