30-30
« on: August 01, 2012, 08:50:20 PM »
what do you guys think about 30-30 for bear? im headed out in the morning and dont know weather to take my .270, muzzy, or 30-30. I was thinkin the 30-30 would be pretty cool since its my grandfathers old rifle i got when he passed away. No shot would be over 100 yards max max distance.

I bring mine with me in areas that have dense cover and I know I wont have a shot over a 100 yards.  If I got to a area with lots of visibility then I take my 30.06. :twocents:

for 150 yds and less the .30-30 will do fine. remember that it is the same size bullet as the .30-06, and the same velocity up close as the .30-06 has at long range.. but you never hear  " dont shoot anything at 300yds with an '06, it wont have enough power to kill him" the .30-30 has killed every game animal in north america, and at appropriate ranges I woudn't feel undergunned with it for anything but grizzly's up close..

use it ! you don't need a hot-fire, super-mag, bling bling with :twocents: a range finding hubble telescope on top to kill anything !

Does it have iron sights? Do you know where it's sighted in for you? The caliber, 30-30, is not an issue. Where you hit with it is. Good luck, hope you get one.

As stated, they work fine. My wife has killed a couple with her 30.30.

I went "cowboy" the other day....30-30 winchester lever action and a single action .45 six shooter for bear.

I looked good, just didnt see any. I like bringing the 30 out for dense cover....100% of my bear shots are so far, well under 75 yards.
