Brown trout out of lake Sacajawea!?
« on: August 01, 2012, 10:39:44 PM »
I fish here every once in a while and catch the stocked rainbows, but I have never seen or heard of anyone ever catching a brown trout or them being in there at all. Stopped by yesterday for a bit and caught this guy! Around 11"
I was very surprised.

Thanks, yes, very cool looking fish! For anyone that knows this lake it is in the middle of town in Longview, Wa. Not exactly brown trout habitat lol. Which is why I find it very odd. But yes I released him back in there!

I would guess that it is probably a stocker.  I think it's pretty common for a few browns to get mixed in with the rainbows at the hatchery.  I have caught brown trout at several other lakes in WA that get stocked with rainbows. Just my :twocents:

When I saw the title, I was expecting something a little more in line with Lake Sacajawea and Longview.....

I was expecting to see some corn eyes on your Brown Trout.   :chuckle:

My kids and I saw two otters in that lake last winter, that was kind of neat.

The only reason to release this fish.....................they taste like dirt.   Cool catch, but remember they are "German" browns, not wild steelhead
I like cats I just can't eat a whole one

I don't know why...but every time I have seen the words "brown trout" in the top of this thread my first thought was that it's a euphemism.....like "Excuse me, I need to go release a brown trout into the sewer system." Maybe there is just something wrong with me.  :dunno:
