long range shooting
« on: August 03, 2012, 08:33:00 AM »
I went out and shot my .338win a little at 150-450 and prone I could hit a softball size target every round and off sticks I could hit the same size target out to 400 every shot and missed once at 450. I need to find an area to shot farther with out idiots around shootin when I go to set up or check the targets :yike:. I would like to see what I can do beyond 500yds with the 225gr accubonds and some practices out of my weatherby prone I know I can hit deer size vitals at 600yds because Ive done it may times but Id like to see how small of a group I can get before throwing more money at my set up

I see you live in Selah. Geeze, there's gotta be a million places to shot long distance around there.

Honestly I find that heading out into a logging and lasering the landings is the best.  I am able to head into a logging and shoot 500 plus, and the major plus is that you can generally drive to your target.  Obviously you need to make sure that it isn't an active logging and that you aren't trespassing...

There's lots of places but I can't set up and shoot with out someone driving up and setting up in the way:(. I found a spot that worked out to 450 but it's hard to get a longer range with out packing my plate out which I can't do right now.

Do have a place where there are rock walls ? Pick a rock, range it and start there. There's gotta be a place up near Naches or something.
