Goodbye Elk season....moving
«

If anyone has any tips for N. Carolina let me know. Last year I could make it back for archery however, we move right during elk season this year.
Supposedly largest black bear ever killed on record came out N. Carolina and tipped the scale over 800lbs. Top ten NC bears are all over 700lbs. Looks like I will be chasing bears if possible.
Moving to MCAS New River area for work. Building a new hangar, apron and parking garage.

If you're gonna chase bears, Pisgah National Forest near Asheboro might be a good place to start. If you're into fly fishing, the Davidson River is over there too. I never got around to chasing bears there, but anywhere I got into the water to fish there was a pile of bear crap. There were lots of guys runnin hounds after bears too. You could hear the dogs going nuts off in the woods while you were fishing.

Bears and whitetail everywhere. You'll kill more animals there in a few years than you could in a lifetime here. Congratulations and good luck

Lived in NC for a long while and was living there 3 years ago before moving here.
Head to the Northeast in the sand country for massive bears. Head to the west in the mountains for smaller bears but hunting like it is here. Join a hunting club for deer. Public land can be found, but with it comes millions of other hunters. you will see someone else no matter where you go. Clubs are the way to go. Large deer in the North Central part of the state. Also, look into urban hunting. Check out nchuntandfish.com for a local forum. I have contacts in Boone, Charlotte and the Durham area that would give the shirt off their back if you ever need anything. Head to the salt marshes for spottails and flounder. Goodluck down there.

excellent fishing, bear hunting, dear and even some wild boar to get a try at. You will enjoy it if you get out and do things.

Right on!! This is more info than I thought I would get going all the way across country!
I have done some more reasearch and will be considered a non-resident until December .... Looks like I am biting the bullet for out of state tags to hunt early. Beside boy #2 is due in December
Thanks for all the tips and info, hopefully I can put a hunt together. I think I can hunt on base, if so that will limit a lot public encroachment.
I will definately look into the fly fishing!

I just moved from Asheville, located in the mountains in the western part of the state. There’s a lot of national forest in the area, but most of it is pretty steep! NC has lots of bear and deer.
I never got around to it, but wild boar hunting is something I wanted to do. They are being over-run with the rascals and farmers will gladly let you hunt.
Another treat is Dove season! If you haven’t experienced it, you should give it a try. Make some friends and get invited to a BBQ and dove shoot.
Western NC streams attract fly fishermen from all over the East coast. Davidson River is very good, but lots of other choices. Good camping too.
Have a GREAT time,
Carl

Try to get in good with a peanut farmer. The bears around those areas are HUGE.

It sure is a nice place.
Also, named "Beer City USA" for something like 4 years in a row!
My wife is there now visiting her folks.
