Thank you H20hunter. Biggest haul yet
« on: August 18, 2012, 08:55:00 AM »
h20hunter helped me out a bit and we just pulled in the heaviest haul yet.  got the pot set out at 7pm last night and pulled it at 7am this morning.  10 keepers inside.   :yike: :yike: :yike:  All red rocks, no dungies though.  I just think they live in our channel while they mature and then they leave.  As far out into the channel as I was, about 200' further off the dock than I'd ever was before, I would have figured they would have been there if anywhere.  Guess the bottom just isn't to their liking.  Oh well, 10 red rocks makes me happy.  I like the taste of them better anyway.  Pot is soaking again now.  Going to pull it about 8pm tonight.

Thanks again h20  :hello:

A couple are covered with barnacles.  most are barnacle free though.  Seems to be the norm

None.  Tried that last night and pulled in a couple of smaller ones, no keepers though.  A lot of reeling in and casting out after a "bite".  Seemed a lot of work for what it would potentially yield.  Maybe dropping it straight down out of a boat in deeper water would work better imo.

Almost didn't make it though.  Paddling that raft out in the current while it's just me is fine.  I rigged up a loop in the rope and hook the loop to the front of the raft while letting the pot dangle about 4' below the raft as I take it in and put it out.  Well, I underestimated the currents ability to grab ahold of the pot and carry me down the shoreline.  got it done once I got back in behind the cut of the bay but it was more work than I expected.  Lesson learned and the pot isn't as far out this time
