matlock elk

anyone know much about the matlock  area. i'm thinking about going down tomarrow with someone but have never been there before. have done some looking and have the boundry mapped out, i know one side of the highway is permit only and the other is 3pt or better bull. is the timber land down there shut down due to fire danger? or is it even worth it to burn the gas.

Hard to say.....the gates worth driving in on are closed at the moment. But there is some good walk in spots, which seem vacant of elk at the moment. I've been pounding it and all the spots I've been seeing fresh elk sign a month ago don't look very promising now
