The couple porcupine I've eaten were very similar to rabbit.  I didn't do anything special to avoid any glands.  They are a bit of a hassle to skin but just cook the same way you would rabbit.

Never skinned one..... Had one small and very fast one attack me on Darland Mt @ 7 years ago.... He met a .50 PB after leaving 14 quills in my leg as well as being scared for life about a 4 pound creature owning you..... Not cool.... The next one was 5 years later while duck hunting..... A little before shooting light.... On the opposite bank of a slough.... He shadowed my every move.... I went left.... He follwed.... I go into water.... So does he... I back up.... Beats me to shore.... I puff up with a huff and put my arms in the air holding the Mossberg.... He stands up on his hind legs and is close to 5' tall.... I damn near *censored* myself and put 2 3" #2 Remington steel loads into him at 4 yards..... I hate them...... Usually have to pull quills outta my GSP every year.... Chased one down in a friends car once..... Tire was flat in the am.....     Damn things... Usually shoot everyone I see if not on any deer or elk at the moment....

They are as bad or worse then bears at killing or damaging trees.......take em out.

In addition to eating porkies, you can also sell the quills, guard hairs, and skulls. I know a couple of guys on here who buy the quills and guard hairs. I buy the raw skulls.

Has anyone else seen a large porcupine?  Deer season 1989 I was hunting the Phinney Peak area near Darrington and this huge porcupine gets spooked by my hunting partner and I.  He was finishing his BS in wildlife biology and he was furiously searching for his camera in his pack but we lost it in the brush.  He said it probably went 30-45lbs.  I had no idea they got that big.  Looked like one of my pigs I raised with a bunch of quills sticking out.

I cant stand these critters! They eat my corn and apples and kill tons of the small trees. I shoot every one I come across. Turner is not joking, porcupines really do a number on saplings. You can tell by the look on the deers face she don't take kindly either.

I've sen more quill pig damaged trees this year than trees damaged by bears  whack em all!!!

I had my brother skin the last one I shot and the smell was horrible. Was it just me or just this one? Or do they all smell that bad.

They smell that bad Now everytime you get down wind of one, you will know it! I kill a lot of them that way. Hell I have killed 3 in the last week. Would have been 4 but I did not want to break a arrow out elk hunting. I about threw out my arm trying to knock him out of a tree about 30 yards up. A few body shot but I could not get a mellon shot. So he lives tell another day.

I shot one last weekend... First one I have seen in a few years...  Used to kill the heck out of them as a kid, just don't see as many as I used to...

Not sure what mans fascination is with killing everything.   Don't kill it unless you intend to eat it or its bothering you or your property.

and is it the porcupines fault your dog is dumb enough to try to chew on him.
