New "Combat" Shotgun Help
« on: August 29, 2012, 11:15:49 AM »
Hey guys its been a while! Anyways I am about to finish up my AR's and am starting to look at a new "combat" shotgun. I’m hoping to get an opinion on a few I have looked at and hoping to see if anyone has any experience with any. Sorry no Saigas, I know I probly just made some fanboys head explode but it’s not for me. ANYWAYS to the list

Utas UTS-15: Yes it looks cool and is very different from other things on the market, but 15 rounds of 12 gauge just floats my fancy very nicely. But they go for around $1350 and they are a pump.

Raac MKA 1919: I like that it’s an AR based platform so its very familiar and they go for around $700 so price is good. But they are too new and there are no hi-cap mags out there yet. The mags are being tested and developed but are not expected to hit the market till next year and who knows for what cost. So its 5 rounder’s for now…bummer

Mossberg 930 SPX: Tried and true design and they have been giving the FN a run for the money, which is about half at $650. Downside they hold 8 shots and they look like every other combat semi auto out there.

I didnt list any mossy 500's or rem 870's cause I have/had both and want something new and different. Pump guns are a great starter but now I really want something to pull out of the safe and people go OOOOOOOOO...

Any experience or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

How about a Saiga???

I know that there is a certain shop in LA. that has its own tv show that does some awesome customizing on those....  of course you are paying through the nose for it too... but hey, you might get on tv.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

I looked at saigas and there are 2 real options (of course this doent apply to everyone). either you pay about $700 for one and then pay a shop to "Tweak" it and get it to run right for you. or you pay $2000 to an outfit like Red Jacket (love that show) for one that works and is all set up. the 3 guns I have listed would require no work to get them where I want they are ready to go from the box. Plus Saigas are becoming one of those "everyone has one" guns, granted the mossberg IS already one of those but it also works.

I’d like one of those Raac MKA 1919s – that would raise some eyebrows at the trap range.  :chuckle:

After having held and shot a 1919, I would go with something else... The whole thing is plastic and feels more like a toy... Saiga are great for semi-auto, but there is nothing like an 870 IMO...

I am an 870 guy too.  If it was something to just stick in the safe, I think I would do a custom O/U or maybe a S/S.  Take a nice one, wack the barrels down to 18" and put a rail on it, a dot, and a flashlight.  I think Mossberg makes one but I am not a fan of Mossberg or the black plastic stocks, even on my "sawed off" shotguns I like nice wood furniture.

Going with an O/U or S/S saves, what? maybe 4 inches or so since you don't have a "receiver".  It would be great in a vehicle or tight spaces.

I love the UTS. It looks like a video game weapon.

Put any thought into Benelli? M1's or M4's. The go to shotgun is the 870 for me but it's nice to have a sexy scatter gun around. ;)

Had a hard time getting it but it's a great shotgun. The collapsible stock is a big plus, I can just toss it in the truck seat. I need to pick up a set of night sight tridium inserts.

Benelli M4 H2O

Tried a bargain Vortex red dot on it but I removed it, for shotgun work and ranges the ghost ring sights are tits.

870 are cool and since I have used them since I was way young. It's like second nature, their fast, sturdy and have a truck load of quality after market parts.

You can pick up a M1 Super 90 for a reasonable price, about the exact same thing less the callapsible and coating. I don't think anything you point it at is going to be really thinking about what model it is. ;)
