Homemade Blind
« on: September 01, 2012, 03:12:49 PM »
So my buddy and I were getting our boats ready for the season and I was picking his brain. The one thing he didn't seem to already have is a ground blind. I want a DIY solution. I need to be able to make it small enough to jam into my kayak but big enough for 2 people to sit in. Anyone done this? Is it worth it or should I pay the money for the predone ones at outdoor stores?

I've had one that extends out like a turkey blind for front coverage. place it with a good backdrop behind you and wrap around your sides then brush up the.front. my dog blew through mine one too many times so its trashed but it worked well for the.time being. Wanna say it was4-5 feet tall and 10-12 feet long. collapsed into a bundle that you placed into a a sack like a lawn chair carrier.

I just use camo netting. Doesn't take up much room in the canoe and with some sticks and grass it makes a great blind in minutes.
The first bird may get the worm, but it's the second rat that gets the cheese.

A couple of pieces of dowl rod and a sheet of leafy camo.  Zip tie or tape the camo to the rods, stick the rods in the ground instant blind.  When your done roll the thing up and lay it on the bottom of the Kayak, it takes very little room.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I have a few of the same making.  I have one with graphite rods and brown burlap that hides very nicely and roles up tightly.  I also have a 20' piece of leafy camo material that I have attached to 4 - 5' pieces of 1/2" electrical conduit.  I weaved the conduit through each section and form the blind by shoving it into the ground.  Then trim branches and set it around.  It works well.  Easy to pack and can be strapped to the top or slid into a kayak.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

i got a large camo net and some burlap camo stuff. just picked up 2 collapsible tent poles at sportco. we shall see how this works on mostly dry ground. should be great for the muskeg. wont work well for those spots where theres 4 feet of water and false bottoms everywhere though.
