What a great day in the Blues!
« on: September 01, 2012, 10:54:23 PM »
As some of you know my wife drew the Dayton A big bull rifle tag.  So I talked her into taking the day off from her motherly duties and headed up to the elk hunting grounds on Skyline.  The weather was wonderful in the mid 60's and sunny.  Showed her the area we would be hunting and saw quite a few bow hunters out tromping through the woods.  The two of us hiked out on to Page Ridge for around a 4 mile round trip.  Just had to pack the Browning 270 because bear did open today.  Saw a few animals even though we didnt get there until around 1030 am.  Saw one bear but very far away.

What a great day to spend with the wife!  Very relaxing and a good time to get her preped for the hunt.  I guess I am just getting excited for fall.

Good luck all of you archery hunters and save a few for us muzzleloader and rifle hunters!

I drew the Archery tag a just got back from hunting all weekend.  We saw some good ones and had a couple of encounters but have yet to fill it.  You are probably asking yourself why i am home and not hunting?  I have to go back to work till friday and then have the rest of the season off.  It will be driving my nuts in the morning to think of the possibilities of what could of happened if i had been there.  But i know the best i yet to come (the rut).  They have started talking but are still still couple days away from really taking off.  If you have any secret spots that you need to get off your chest, you have a couple of days tell i leave and i am all ears.  :chuckle:Good luck to your wife dvolmer.

I dont blame you for working now and hunting later.  if you are like most and have to select your time to hunt you are smart to wait for the rut.  I am not a bow hunter and not sure of the elk pattern in the pre-rut and rut time in the Blues.  When we hunt them they are pretty much done with the cows and in groups of one to three usually.  Good luck and wack one if you can!
