Grouse Thief...
« on: September 01, 2012, 09:30:34 PM »
Was out grouse hunting this afternoon and bagged me a nice sized grouse... Was going to have him for dinner tonight.

So I set him down on some tree limbs at a trail junction about waist high to run down another road, without having to carry it with me.  Came back not 20min later to a pile of feathers and some blood... :yike: I really can't think of anything else out there that would do that really... :dunno: So I am thinking either a bobber or yote got him...

Looks like I am going to have to avenge dinner now, tomorrow I am going throw the rabbit leftovers from today at the same place and sit on it for a while until I have a taker... :bash:

Could it have been a hawk?

Could it have been a hawk?

A grouse is maybe pretty big for a hawk to haul off.   But a coyote or bobcat might not have left any sign at all.

Could it have been a hawk?

I was thinking that too, but it looks a little too messy to be a hawk... Usually on hawk kills I have found it is a neat pile of feathers where the hawk sits and enjoys his meal.  This is like feathers and blood all over a 15x15 area, like something ripped it apart, like a cat or dog does... I know there is a bobber in the area, I have seen him a couple times and found his scat in the area...

Could be a hawk though... :dunno:
