Anyone notice the deer shooting trends?
« on: September 04, 2012, 10:15:34 AM »
Seems like 90% of the "I shot a deer" threads are from us westsiders.  Is it just still too hot for eastsiders to be hunting or is the hunting that much better over there in late season?

More units are open for does in western Washington, and there is not a 3 point minimum antler point restriction.

There's no shortage of deer over here on the Eastside. It is a bit warm but that the norm, it's mostly a morning hunt right now. Up where I hunt and on my place the deer get really active around 7:30 in the evening and are usually moving to bedding areas right at or slightly before first light. The mature bucks you really have to pattern or be fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. Of course I'm speaking about open country, sage/canyon country. It takes some patients, skill with a little luck tossed in to make a successful stock on a bedded mature mule deer bedded in big open country.

It's so dry now, it's just flat noisy even stalking in sox. those big boys bed up on my place so they have the wind at their back and a good view. Way easier with a rifle. :chuckle:

Maybe you westsiders just jump the gun a little bit.  I have seen lots of deer posted, but no monsters yet, even by blacktail standards.  We will see which side of the state has more pigs to show at the end of the season.  :chuckle:

Maybe it's cause you all stopped at Starbucks on the way home and decided use their wifi hotspot to post up the deer you "caught".

Half of the eastern portion of state doesn't even have the Internet yet.

A lot of us eastsiders just hunt, kill, and don't post success on internet forums.  Many of us don't need an internet pat on the back to make ourselves feel better. ;)

I had a buddy that dared to travel to "That" side of the mountains. He said he hit a black tail at about 40mph. Hit the brakes looked in the rear view and saw nothing so he kept going. He kept hearing a strange noise so he pulled over and stopped at the side of the road. He ended up prying that buck out of his brake pad. He said he was sure glad he found it, due to the fact he couldn't afford a Possesion Of Big Game Out Season ticket.  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

not suprising to me the easterners aren't hunting yet. they are still trying to get the best prices for scrap metal and everyone is still doing spring cleaning, so that means old fridges and stoves and washers and dryers.  CHA CHING to those east side ears

Because on the East Side we don't use the words "big" and "forkhorn" in the same sentence.

Hell, 75% of my camo hunting pants are pink on the inside trim :dunno:

Wal-Mart had them on clearance for $3 a pair.  They fit, were $3, 100% realtree camo on the outside and only have pink trim on the inside.  I'm hip enough to pull that off.
