Got my Boy a new Bow.
« on: September 03, 2012, 08:40:33 PM »
So last year my son started boy scouts, he went to summer camp and earned his archery merit badge. He has had the fever. He has wanted a bow.
I stopped today at cabelas (i had a few gift cards).  And bought him a Diamond Edge. My son is 13, he is 5'10" 160 pounds. He has a 28 inch draw and i had them set it at 40 pounds.
Gotta start somewhere. He is rifle hunting this year but i see an archery hunt in my future with him. Only problem is, i have an old bow that i cant do to many upgrades to.
I did buy the package deal, but i think the rest could be better. Need to get a fall away rest for him.

Ya stick with the whisker for awhile.  Its safer and easier to use.  Its actually a good rest to about 35-40yards then accuracy starts to suffer I think. :twocents:

Yeah, my boy is 6'2", size 14 shoes and 150lbs.  Good thing he has his momma's metabolism.  He is a hurdler, 4x400 relay, and javelin thrower.  He also is a bow snob...  He just earned $1500 and is planning to spend it on a new Hoyt. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I havent shot it yet. But my buddy said they are crap. We will shoot it for a while and see how it works out. It is the cheap 20 dollar one so i am guessing it is the first thing that will be replaced.

Way to go Dad. Getting your son a better bow than you is the right way to get him into the sport. I bought my son the Razor last year and he has already won awards with it. The setup is great for a new archer. I agree with the putting a drop-away as soon as he is ready. It will really improve his grouping. He will learn quickly to draw smooth enough to not have problems. That bow will last him a long time with great results.
