where do these people come from?
« on: September 08, 2012, 03:28:30 PM »
So I was very excited to go up on Mica peak today and get my trail camera after leaving it up there for over a month.  I  knew I would have some good elk photos.  It takes about an hour and a half to get to the top and it is uphill all the way.  After getting there I noticed my camera was positioned differently than when I left it.  I use a 1/4" stainless still cable wrapped around the tree with a weatherproof lock.

The camera said full!  How exciting.

I get the camera home and to my surprise found that someone was able to open the case up, take out the SD card, load them on their Cannon digital rebel, clear them off my SD card and put the card back without pushing it in all the way.  They did this two days before I got there because the new cannon rebel folder on my card was only two days old.

A few years ago I was talking to a guy who said he repeatedly finds trail cameras in the woods and takes out the cards to see what's on them.  I felt like knocking him out.

Where do these people come from?  I have never nor will I ever even think of touching someone else's gear.....ever!

I am thinking of putting two cameras out, one on a trail and the other hidden to watch my camera.
 What are your thoughts?

Find a bear box that locks so people can't do that to your camera. Seems like that crap happens every where.

That really sucks, I had one stolen last year. My evil side thought that I could take my old cams that no longer work, remove the guts and install a can of bear spray that would go off when some jerk opened it. But that is probably illegal. It would be fun to do with a cam hidden so you get it on video :chuckle:

I just had a kid delete some pictures off of mine. It took some pics of a guy that just shot a deer and his son. The pics that were left on there only had the guys from the neck down. I ran into the deer hunter and he told me about it. He said he didn't touch it but he told another kid that also said he found it. The kid told the deer hunter that he deleted the pictures. I'm a bit ticked that he would touch someone's camera. But I'm thankful none of them stole it. A message for all those that would do the same. Keep your hands off of other peoples stuff. It is no different than steeling something off of someones front porch.  :bdid: I hope that the next time you get caught.

Two words:  "LOCK BOX"!

(Apologies to Algore!  :chuckle: )
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

That would really piss me off.  I would consider baiting a camera setup with a virus infected batch file on board to screw up their device when the tried to look at my pics.
Such is life in the West and the further West the more the such.

I have only seen a few cams. I saw one in a very easy to spot location and I'm sure it got pics of me. I was almost wanting to leave the owner a note to tell him it wasn't a safe place.
