What have any of you had good luck with? Looking for a couple, one for food and one for my down bag...

Sea to Summit E-vent compression sack.   

Waterproof, and the small size fits my Golite Adrenaline 20* bag easily.

Compression bag for food?
I've got a couple REI Compression bags that have worked fine for me. I just put food in a stuff sack.

I have OR, the kind that you fold the top once, grab the two hook and loop tabs pull down and seal to the side of the bags.  I had the type that had 3-4 sinch buckles but the OR's are lighter and much faster.  I went to REI lately to buy a few more and was bummed that I couldn't find any that were anywhere close to the quality of my OR's.  Insult to injury...they were twice as expensive too!

Yeah, I saw a video of a guy that used one for 5 days worth of food and made it small and organized, thought I would try it? If I don't like it I can always use the sack for something else :tup:

Sorry to all, but I do not support REI, they are still way to supportive of the anti's for me :twocents:


Mentioned 'hunting' once while searching/purchasing a green trails map at the B-ham store...whew I"ll never make that mistake again!

I use the OR bags mentioned above.  They work great. Looks like they don't make that style anymore. You can order the newer styles directly from OR (Seattle-based company) on their website without setting foot in an REI if that's an issue.   http://www.outdoorresearch.com/en/or-gear/storage-systems.html

I don't use em...they're just extra weight.  I fit food in to the spaces that are made by the bigger items and then put it all my sleeping bag sack to hang when I get to camp.

 :dunno:   Getting a long -5 down bag into a ball smaller than a basketball leaves a lot of room for more food, same with my tent. For less than 1lb
