I have a 1988 High Country Sniper that has served me well.   I'm shooting 85lbs with 65% let off.  2217s have left gaping holes in everything I've shot.  The bow has no problems with removing rib bones either.  My 20, 30 and 40 yrd pins are very close together.
Introduce someone new to hunting this year.

I shoot a bowtech allegience.  It's a 2005 model.  Doesn't have the fancy speed modules.  Don't matter though.  It drives tacks out to 60yds.  If I was a coyote.  I'd be scared to death at 80yds.  I used to buy a new bow every year until I got this bow.  Granted I haven't shot the newer models.  I don't have a desire to upgrade this bow.

Using a trophy taker rest.(Put the same rest on my last 5 bows)  Spot hogg sight.  Alpine quiver and gold tip xt 7595 arrows.

I hear you about the arrows.  I need to buy at least a dozen for both my trad bow and compound.  I bought a set of gold tips this last fall for the Trad bow, and they are spined a bit too stiff for it.  They love to swing all sorts of directions.

I have the same problem, any arrow recommendations?  I like to keep them long- well past my fingers w/ a broadhead- and i think my bow is set around 65 lbs.

Carbon or aluminium?

I'll have to see what number my carbon are.  I use the gold tip traditionl grain carbon in their maximium length (31inch ?)for my longbow(85 pounds).  I use the easton aluminium for my compound.  I shoot an overdraw, but have a 31 inch draw length, so my arrows are still fairly long.  I think those are 29 inch.  I'll take a gander.  I shot one set of arrows with my longbow that were seemed close to perfect.  I was down to 6 in good shape, and wanted more for my moose trip, so ordered a new set with one notch up stronger spine. I guess I was shooting for absolute perfect.   $120 later, I had a dozen arrows that were spined too stiff.  Big mistake.  Soooooooo I took the 6 good ones to Alaska with me.  I used one of them. Other than some moose blood, I guess it still is in good shape. ; )  I'll check my numbers and get back to you.  The carbon sure lasts longer than those aluminium ones.

Mine are carbon- the problem is i'm 1.5 hours from any bow shops and i can't be runnning back and forth all the time to make changes.  I've been shooting the same arrows for four years...and haven't changed a thing on my bow since i bought it.   I think it's time for a trip to town!

I hear you about bow shops.  Mine has late hours...opens at like 5 at night until 8.  I'm never in town during those hours.  My Gold tips that work the best or old ones are 5575.  the ones that are spined wrong are 7595.  I had three arrows that came with the bow that were the 5575s and they didn't work the best.  The batch I bought seem to work fine.  Since its an 85 pound bow, I thought I would try the next spine up. I thought maybe I was right on the edge.   Wrong choice.  I don't know if these will shoot through my compound or not.  I shoot the aluminium xx75 camo hunters out of it.  I bowhunt, but don't know wnough about archery to know how well these other arrows will shoot out of it.  I guess I should hit the range.  I think if I put heavier broadheads on these babies they might also work.  I hear you're not supposed to do that necessarily. ???

Geez Bone.  85# longbow.  That is a man's bow.
I have an old hoyt ramhunter that I shoot only occasionally now.  I learned on a longbow so I shoot it like one. No sights and with fingers.
My goto bow is a John Schulz longbow made for my Dad.  It is 58# at 26".  I think that calculates to around 70# at my 29", and every year I am real sore when I pick it up again.  I am unsure of the calcs per inch of overdraw.  One of those things I used to know when hunting was my main priority.  Now all that extra space in my brain is taken up with family things I need to remember.  So if someone gives me that info, I'll blame you when I forget my wedding anniversary...again.
Dreams are forever on the mind, realization in the hands.
