quail in bonney lake?
« on: September 14, 2012, 09:24:13 AM »
Got in my truck to take my kids to school this morning....and there's a flock of quail in the vacant lot next to my house! Is this normal? Does anyone else know of wild quail in bonney lake or is it most likely runaway domestic quail?

There are quail in Enumclaw as well. But I've never heard of anyone hunting them.

Quail are everywhere, just might not see them much.  I've seen them in Puyallup, Fife, and Bonney Lake.  I almost think people released them.

They may have. I just left to pick my son up from physical therapy and nearly ran over like 10 of them.

Not a big surprise.  They are native here after all.  Wonder if some of them you're seeing are mountain quail?

Mountain quail are the only "Native" quail and I'm not 100% certain of that. According to the heated debate I had thru emails with the WDFW Director a few years back the ONLY upland game the state considers "Native" are grouse........................... everything else they charge money for to hunt upland featherwise is "Introduced".

Saw a covey of ten Valley Quail coming in East Gate on Fort Lewis after an unsuccessful end to my Sept Goose season.

See a small group of these running around just off Canal Rd in Yelm now and then:

I lived in roy for 6 years. I never seen quail there. That's awesome. I did see a pheasant one time. Figured it escaped from the Ft. Lewis release.

My sister lives off canal in one of the new cracker jack neighborhoods. She watches the quil walk her fence every morning. Nice to see them in what I consider good numbers these days.
