Margaret bull tag- Filled!- Story Added

I even heard some "experts" that shot a smaller 4 point saying; "we scouted for months and there just really aren't any 6 points up there. 5 points is as big as they get, something about the genetics." Way to go on an awesome bull!

I've been scouting for months and hunting very neer there for a few years now spending time glassing Loowit/Margaret elk.  I fully agree that place favors 5 points like you wouldnt believe. But even I've seen a 6x6 or two. They are just rare. Since that ones now dead they are a bit rarer yet.

In my opinion them boys worked hard and did that tag real justice. That is a representative jumbo for that unit as far as I've seen.

I would agree with that based on what I saw as well. We did see some 6 points, and one even larger, but the majority was certainly 5's. I just thought it was funny to make the claim of there only being 5 points after scouting as much as these guys claimed too.

There was definitely a lot of negativity about the Margaret tag. It's not an easy tag that's for sure but there are plenty of animals around to keep things interesting. I had an awesome hunt and a great time. Pretty cool to be able to hunt from the low land thick stuff up to the high country open stuff.

Nice bulls Bluesdude. Top end for sure. Glad to see someone put some of the better bulls on the ground. Still a piss poor unit for big bulls. Very far and few betweem. Cant wait for it to go to a general hunt.

Your crazy. There are some great bulls in that unit. Just have to spend some time scouting. Hey for a Westside hunt you can't ask for much more. Remember it just a bull hunt.

Back country camping permits would  turn into a 2 + year wait during hunting season.   Hope it never goes general , even if I don't stand a chance of pulling another tag.    Unless WA goes to a quota system.........

Almost every bull we saw (and we saw a lot) were 5x5.  But a lot of the big ones live on WEYCO land and it was all closed down.

Exactly. I definitely think there are a lot bigger bulls down low on weyco. I should have some good trail cam pictures of some once it opens back up. It makes no sense to me why it would go back to general.

What was the reason for it to go to permit only, Thats easy, there was no cover and the elk needed time to repopulate and disperse. Now that is done it needs to go back  to a general season. No point for it to be a permit anymore.

So why not the toutle? Why not the nooksack? White river? Let's open them all up for general season. I don't really care I'm not going to draw this tag again for a long time and would like to hunt it general season along with everyone else but we only had what 5 choices in the bull category? The other four weren't even worth puttin in for to me. Sure this unit isn't gonna give you good odds at a 300+ bull like your nooksack tag or a white river tag but the lack of pressure and amount of elk make it appealing to me. If it were to become a general area it would be over run and probably ruined. Although I would be right there with everyone else.

I completely agree, I would even expand that to most west side area's to be general hunting. I always hunted the white river and for many, many years it has been a general hunt. Making the white a permit hunt only gave the mucks and the other multiple tribes a private hunting ground. They kill more bulls in that unit than non natives, so what is the point. If they were disciplined enough and they all combined took the same as us, then it would be worth it having stay permit only. But that will never happen! The white is too big and has plenty of cover for the elk to be affected by the general season like it has been for most of it's life. It's complete bull crap that the white is permit only, but that's just my opinion. I think the wdfw would like to see every unit a draw unit, they might give out a lot of tags but they would receive a ton of money from each application. I think that is what is in our future, but again just my opinion.

You have to understand something...

THIS UNIT IS PRIVATE PROPERTY AND WILDERNESS...

not land that the natives can go crazy on.. hell most of it is hike in only.....  IT NEEDS TO STAY WILDERNESS.  IT NEEDS TO STAY PERMIT ONLY.


The main reason for it going General Bull is AGNEW's MONEY buying his way through the WDFW...  He is the one that bought the biggest chunk of the high lakes area... Rumor has it he wants to build a Hunting Lodge, and sell hunts on his land.  HE CAN NOT DO THAT IF IT IS PERMIT ONLY!!!!!!  Hell he can not hunt his own land there if it is permit only....
