Bear in A. Jackson wilderness
« on: August 23, 2008, 06:04:52 PM »
Well I'll post a pic here, not a secret place by any means lots of hikers up there today. 5 miles in and 2700 feet, i was on my way to head back and i decided to glass the meadow once more it just looked like such prime bear feeding real estate. So I spotted what looked to be a monster, and ditched my pack behind some trees and started slipping and sliding down the tundra which was steep as CRAP! Half way down i slipped, dropped my bino's and they tomahawked down to the God knows where. So i get closer and I realize there are 2 cubs with it  :bash: :hunt2: And it cost me some cheap bino's that i took from my pap's a while back DOH!

So anyway i snapped a couple pics  climbed the tundra slope out and hiked the 5 miles back. I realized its a good thing i didn't shoot one cuz there is no EFFING way i would have been able to haul  hide/deboned meat out. My knees would have turned to jelly.  :P

Good effort; that's why its called hunting  Sorry to hear about your loss and glad you're okay. This is a good reminder to budget minded folks like me why I'll probably never spend $2K+ on those Swaro ELs or a simliar competitor. If they're lost or stolen, you're SOL. It tick me off to lose my $300 binos, but nowhere near what I'd feel like after losing an $800+ pair.

i just ordered some new binos from Walmart online. Some LEupold Mesa compacts for $120. Seems a good price for compact waterproof and 10x zoom, plus cheap enough i won't cry to lose 'em. Not to menttion they have Leupold's limited lifetime warranty.

I know walmart is the devil, but they have such low prices! :'( :o

Walmart?  You are joking right.  Is there a single Sportsman making a living there?

Hey, its called capitalism, no one makes a living on charity. Whats the difference between Joes or Walmart, both big box?? I don't know of any hunting specific shops in the everett area, if you know pass it on, i would visit them.

Insurance my man.  I scheduled mine on my homeowner policy.  Cost me $2.00 a month.  Lost/stolen they're covered.  You lose yours and you pay $300 to get a $300 binocular.  I pay my $250 deductible and get another pair of EL's.  Just FYI!
