Hunting Blind
« on: September 25, 2012, 06:50:15 AM »
I have an ethics question about using someone else's blind.... I found one set up in the woods on DNR land built outta 2x4's and plywood and wondered what people had to say about using someone's blind.  In my mind, if I built one and wasn't there to use it and you can make use and take care of it, I could care less if you used it.  I just definitely don't want to start something so I figured I'd ask.... :dunno:

No one can tell you your ethics, but you.

A blind on public land is public.  Would I hunt out of someone's deer blind on public land. No. Would I hunt out of someone's waterfowl blind on public land, yes.  I dont know why I see things the way I do, but I do.
Would I care if someone hunted out of my deer blind or waterfowl blind on public land, absolutely not.

I would probably sit on stand in the area and see if anything is moving and watch to see if anyone shows up to use the blind.   If the area is hot, there are always places to set up.
I always like to be silent in the woods and not be made.  Using another persons blind might compromise my position and my hunt, especially if I am discovered by the blinds owner.

If you love something you will set it free, if it don't come home, hunt it down and kill it.

I think there is a difference between a wood structure which has been in place for years and someone's, pop up blind or tree stand.
I use a pop up. And I will leave in place the entire muzzy season. I stock it with drink & chair. Now if I found someone in it I would not be happy. If they were sitting under a tree next to it no problem I would grab what I needed to hunt out of it and move on or pick it up move.

We had one of these threads before. There has to be something more than just public ground.
I find your truck or atv, bike, horse, sled, tent, girlfriend on public ground that dosent give me the right to use them.  I can set down next to them and hunt but not use them.

I find your trail cam on public land so I can use it.

With waterfowl it is different. Lots of duck hunters make blinds on DF&W lands than leave them. You are required to move your gear every day from state lands. So first come first serve in the am.

Use it, If the owner shows up then move along. We did have this thread before, and I said the same thing. I grew up in Indiana and if you walked through any piece of public land there would be a tree stand about every 50'. I have used many of other peoples tree stands, and I've had other people use mine.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

I am curious if this ever caused a conflict. Did you ever have to tell someone that it was your stand and to move along? I have always wondered about that.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you actually are while your reputation is merely who others think you are.
