Good job RadSav, you know your p and y scoring. It needs 12.5 of nt points to be an official nt score. That is something I, and many others didn't know. AK and wide bear are right, the velvet stays on so it couldn't be a record anyways. I was hoping to keep it off the Internet until it was official to stop 15 pages of bs like this . Unfortunately when the wife put it on her face book the damage was done. The facts are its a big *censored*, and some of you should not try and score off of a pictures.

Congrats Ryan,
Can't wait to see it.

Neil

unless you chose non-typical. It's up to the owner to chose typical or non-typical.
What Radsav is wisely saying is that it doesn't make NT as it doesn't have enough extra.  I've never been a velvet fan but understand precisely why he is keeping the velvet.   I think thats great.

I go to both shows, so I will see it for sure!

I don't think that anybody said that it was not a tremendous buck, the pictures are definitely deceiving.  My buddy killed a 197" typical in CO a few years ago and I remember looking at the picture and thinking "you're on crack".  It's a good thing that I didn't comment because when I held it in my hands, it was the real deal!

It's the bucks that are really solid everywhere that sneak up on you.  We are always looking for a wide buck or a buck with a giant front end...a buck with a giant back end.  This buck appears to be one of those bucks that is super solid in every category - its evident on the score sheet!

Congrats to the hunter.  It would be a stud buck at 180" or 210"!  And I can't wait for the story in Eastmans!

By the way, I don't think people are being critical, I don't think they are jealous, I know I am not.   I think they are trying to get to the bottom of the score, and the scoring process.   Once a claim is made then it is out there for critique or opinion.  It has nothing to do with this forum or anything else.  It would be the same around a campfire with buddies.  There would be a whole lot of backslapping, some ribbing, and then the reality check.     Without discussion, I think this forum would be pretty lame.   You can call it a 220 buck if you want, if thats what makes your heart tick.  You can even call it a 600 pounder.  The reallity is on the scoresheet.   It isn't a "non-typical", so those points HURT.  Obviously any person alive would probably rather have the dropper, then a net score.   I am also curious about the 5% and how that will be accomodated.   I am not sure what Washington state books will do.   They may make a new category or not.  Thats interesting.   What is 5% of 186.   I believe many of the folks looking at this deer in the first place were taking those factors into consideration.   That is NOT being insulting.   I would love to see thisbuck in person.   Any deer of this caliber is amazing.   Congrats Mongo on a great buck with a bow.

I agree with Boneadict. I see nothing wrong with any of the comments in this thread. It's all just a normal discussion about a spectacular buck.

I don't get why some are saying this thread is a bunch of "BS".   :dunno:

Congrats to the hunter on a buck of many lifetimes.

I think this topic shows exactly why many hunters do not post their photos on this forum. From the beginning I suspected this buck would score better than most thought but I didn't want to get into the fray.

I know Larry Carey and have had him score trophies for my hunters in the past. He has been scoring trophies for decades and is very good and extremely experienced at scoring, there is no doubt in my mind that he is correct with his score.

Really? Just because people are discussing what they THINK it might score? As others have said, it can be very difficult to judge a buck just from a picture. If a hunter gets upset just because someone on the Internet underestimated his buck, well then I'd say that guy has issues. Who cares if someone guesses a lower score on a buck than what it actually is?

What I found frustrating in this thread is someone stated that the taxi put a tape to it and came up with XXX", then a bunch of people were still not in belief of the taped amount.  Why would you not believe a taxi that knows how to measure?  And why would people go by a guess from a pic more so than someone that put a tape to them and actually held them in their hands? :dunno:

:yeah: I think some don't like this thread because, even after an official scoring, they still did not want to give credit to this buck  :dunno:

Pictures can be deceiving.

I just don't see it as a big deal. So someone didn't believe it got scored correctly. So what. Maybe they need to see it in person to realize how big it really is.

Whatever the reason, it shouldn't keep people from posting their pictures and stories on this forum.

Well, some people don't like to get into arguments or disagreements, so in their case it would be better to avoid the drama.

I think it is the condescending tone that comes across, intended or not.  These are typed posts and there is a lot lost in translation with no facial expression or voice inflection.  I come here because people share hunt photos, share info on areas and info on tactics.  I think some people will hesitate to post pics of their bigger animals because of threads like this.  It is GREAT animal.  I doubt I'll eversee one that big on the hoof.  I think it is one of the two best deer this year.  It is fun to guess at this animals score, but I was always taught to respect others and some of the comments seem a little less than respectful, even in other threads people seem to be slandering this deers score or at least it comes across that way to me.  I respect the guesses of everyone on here, but just leave it at that, pull your zippers back up.  The main thing I like out of this thread is seeing such a STUD buck and knowing someone snuck up in pretty open terrain.  Can you imagine how hard his heart was beating?!  I would love to have heard a story rather than everyone worrying about the score.  Scores are numbers on a page, give it a guess and leave it alone.  And this isn't directed at anyone in particular, just the feel I got.

We would not have made 19 pages if everyone just said nice buck or great buck. Whether the score came from the hunter or where ever once a "score" is thrown out there be ready for some discussion or dont throw out a score. Those that take offense to people who question a score once it is tossed out have every right to their opinion just as those who take some pride in understanding the scoring systems and are careful not to overstate the score on animals they are involved in as credibility is at stake. This was kind of trap in a way based on those 2 pics. And 5% of 210 is 11 inches. Great buck is an understatement but I like the world that involves discussion and opinions rather the politically correct world we have evolved to in many ways. I think most on here are quite polite. If a kid or beginning hunter posts just about anything most say "nice job". But if you are on here to brag be ready to defend. I think what most competitive people find very hard to take are those people who talk things up and hunting is a sport notorious for people overstating their achievements.  Trophy of a lifetime and especially for Washinton.

I have no problems with debating a score or discussing a trophy.  That is part of putting something out there on the internet, but there were many condesending remarks about this buck not only in this thread but in several other threads that had nothing to do with this buck.  It just leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.
