Plan B For Modern Deer?
« on: September 26, 2012, 10:34:45 PM »
So like all or most of you know that there's a lot of land shut down due to fire danger, especially here in SW WA. And like a lot of you guys who are looking forward to modern deer season, it looks like I might have to resort to plan B for opening weekend. My buddy and I had a nice spot picked out on Sierra Pacific land, but according to the nice lady I spoke to on the phone from SP, it had better start pouring now if they plan on opening for access come hunting season.

So that leaves me back at my crappy spot in Nat'l forest land. :bash: I'm positive they'll have weyerhauser and SP open before the end of the season, but I've always enjoyed opening weekend. I am almost thinking of just saving my time and money for when it all opens up and just going a week or two later. Anyone else feeling the pain?  :dunno:

I'm the last person to want or enjoy rain, but we sure could use a few good solid days of downpour!  :chuckle: And there is one good thing about it. All the deer and elk behind those gates aren't being hunted right now, and it could be some good hunting for those of us who are patiently waiting for them to open access again!
That wasn't me! It was a black Camaro! It went that way!

Well now they're saying we could have rain next weekend. I will believe it when I see it, but it will probably be too little too late!

The road up to where we hunt is right inside of the outlying border for the area closures.  Praying for rain and hopefully they will open it back up or condense the closed area to not include my spot.  Sucks that this is going right up until possibly opening day before having to make a decision.  We've got a plan B and C, but hope to not have to use them.  We hunt eastside.

This is a year I wont forget! Cant believe it pretty much hasnt rained in 2 months. Our group has hunted most of the last two deer seasons in Montana but this year we decided to hunt hard here in Washington for the deer this year. And we were super excited to have a big deer camp for 9 days!! Now our area is off limits. Very disappointing!! With no rain in the forcast things arent looking good. Taking a last min scouting trip to find a new area this weekend. Areas that are open in Central Washington are going to be extra packed this year. See you all in 2 weeks!  :bash: :bash: :bash:

Yeah, you're right I never thought of that. A lot of places especially in the Ginford Pinchot will probably see more hunters. Sorry to hear about your area. We were pretty stoked about our new area and were looking forward to hunting it heavy this year. But I believe Jackmaster is correct in that we should get some rain before the end of the season and it will open up again. I'm betting the east side has it worse than here on the west side of the state as they will probably see rain later than us.

But lets hope not!  I think I'm gonna go with plan B at least for opening weekend. It will be good to at least get out there. But I am positive we will have rain come the rut and everything should open up and make for some good hunting.

I heard that they shut down all state land yesterday and we are not expected to get any rain for at least the next 2-3 weeks.   :bash:  My early muzzleloader elk season just took a crap!   :bash:

I went up the entiat this past weekend, and while there is still water in many places, its very dry out there. Even in the areas that are open to the public, if a timber company owns it then they have shut it down due to fire danger. Until we get some good moisture, I dont see them opening up anything.

I heard the Burn Ban has been extended.. other than that.... have not heard anything about the state closing its land off, except where there is active fires going on.....  such as the Naneum Forest.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.
