Ground Blind?

So come saturday I will be in the woods as early muzzy season starts. My hunting partner wants to bring out a portable ground blind and hunt from that. I have never hunted from a ground blind always just found a stump with think brush around it and used that as cover. My question is are ground blinds good for hunting in say a clear cut? Will a deer see it as unnatural? I know some may say don't set it up where it would stick out like sore thumb. Has anyone had success using one? I am sure many will view this as a dumb question. That may be true but I am just doing some research. Anything to help my chances of getting a deer this season.  I hope this is the right forum for this.

 I've used them and they seem to work if you use a few branches to break the outline. I've never actually shot one out of a ground blind as I haven't been in mine that much. It is a good hunt but I just couldn't see packing a 12lb blind, my pack, gun or bow, and a chair in and out every day. I don't think I would leave it out on public land for obvious reasons.

I used one on the edge of an alfalfa field this year and had deer all around it within 20yds.  I had it against tall grass and trees behind it but have had great success using them. This is the deer I shot while using a ground blind this year.

Wet stump is not good either, they could have unwanted guest in them like worms that can burrow through your clothes. 

I use a ground blind and they are effective, it even fools some humans.  I now put a blaze orange vest on the blind.

My kids and wife have shot deer from ground blinds but they were brushed up a lot by me(duck hunter).  They also were in place for weeks prior to hunting from them. Tv shows make it seem like you just pop one up and hunt from it but this is tv. I prefer natural cover over a ground blind.

   yeah, what that guy says is all too true. Natural is better, but ground blinds can work.
Just be smart about where you put it.

Ok here is what I have learned about this subject is the last week. I set one up on private ground two weeks ago for my kid to shoot from tomorrow afternoon.  It's set up 60 yards out in an alfalfa field (200+ acers) in a sprinkler row.  I brushed it up as best as I could and here is what I have been seeing.

Day 1-3 when deer came down the draw they stopped at the edge of the field and looked at it for 1-2 minutes.  They came out into the field and fed but would not get closer that say 75 yards from it.  They would pick there heads up and look at it every now and agian but were not alarmed.

Day 4-8 Deer no longer look at it and just walk out into the field.  They will pick there head up now and again to take a glance at it but dont pay much attention to it.

Day 9-10  Didnt evey look at it and had two bucks 40 yards from it.

Day 11 Had 6 bucks within 75 yards from it
 
Day 12 5 Bucks 35 or less yards from it 1 buck 8 feet from it.

So it looks like to me they know its a little out of place but get use to it, so hopefull my kid will get his first muzzy kill tomorrow!

my  ...break up the outlines, get a comfortable position that allows you to move in any direction to shoot WITHOUT being detected, disguise your smell as it will stay close to the ground, take lots of munchies stay alert.  i would use natural blind material that mimics the clearcut and expect the unexpected.  good luck

Also....keep it buttoned up as much as you can. Pretty amazing how much glare will come of you and your gear. Good luck and I'll be looking forward to hearing about the hunt.
