Looking for "Modern" Elk partner
« on: October 02, 2012, 05:18:41 PM »
So all my buddies who said they were down for hunting this year have bailed on me, ok one gets a pass as he's gettin married, perhaps I need new buddies, I dunno.

Regardless, Im looking to go to the southeast side of Mt Rainier for the majestic elk this year and dont really want to go at it alone for safety reasons.

Anyone want to go get some elk or have advise how I could go by myself and be safe.

Thanks!

If going it alone, carry extra food, fuel, clothes, boots, and water, ability to make fire, tire chains, radio, cell phone, batteries, etc.

Leave your GPS location and time of return with a trusted friend, or carry one of those PLBs.  Have a map, compass, and GPS, and trust your instincts about being safe and sensible.

Sorry I cannot help more, as we are heading further east.

Im 20 minutes from you, and what i know about elk is intense, i can sum it up in one phrase  " SEE elk, SHOOT elk" thats all i know lol.  :chuckle: oh and i have a good elk call. And I dont have any special tags, I have to hunt where its open modern, but if you need a hunting partner shoot me a pm, i personally dont care to hunt alone and can hunt pretty much anytime.

Looks like I am not going to hunt elk in Idaho now so I am free to hunt here and don't have anyone to hunt with.

I'd love to meet up with you and go!  Sent you an email with my contact info.  Let's get together!

You can always buy a Spot. It basically summons a search and rescue team if you press a button on the device. It uses GPS. I'm not sure this is the best place to buy it from but it provides good information. http://www.thesarstore.com/spot/

This is going to get crowded if this goes on much longer LOL.

I'm needing an Elk partner this year also and haven't picked up my tag just yet so I can choose west or east.  My pop's definitely can't go on the elk hunt with me for much more than the drive out.

So anyone care for a tag along like myself?  I haven't been on an elk hunt since 1987.... (southern Utah)
