Mica, Joseph...next stop Buck Creek
« on: October 08, 2012, 02:50:13 PM »
Drew multiseason this year.  After getting my elk on 3rd day of season, hunted the rest of archery season on Mica for a whitetail.  Didn't see a lot, but weather has been hot and dry.  Ran into a few hunters looking to fill their bull moose tag.  Start of muzzleloader, I was on call, so did not get out until this weekend.  Went to SE corner by Grand Ronde River.  Green Gulch is all burned up but still managed to spot a few does...unless you count the dozen deer I saw down by the road after dark and cow and calf elk in the road.  Bear walked in my tracks from the day before, but never laid eyes on him.  Other than that, the place was a wasteland though a few sprigs of green were showing back up.  A little rain and that place is going to look pretty lush.  Next weekend going to check out Buck Creek area.  Never hunted it before, but suspect the buck numbers are a little higher than on Mica.  Just put some miles on the feet.  Anyone with any experience with the hunter numbers during rifle in that area?  My other option is some private land...but not very good at sitting in one spot for very long.

I seen a deer in the back of a truck a couple years ago that had to be pushing 190s come out of buck creek, hunted alot in that area but hunter #s are just a bit much anymore.  Ive seen some big dudes up that way though.

I suspect the hunters would be slightly offended...you calling them "big" and all.
