Now why I hate some rifle hunters, opening morning first ones out. Park and slowely start walking up a fenceline that goes out to a tall butte. 4 guys pull in right behind us and walk as fast as they can right behind us and dollow us all the way to the butte then walk through the draw right below the butte pushing all the deer out and sit less than 200 yards from us. In my experiences rifle hunting is rifle hunters are inconsiderate Aholes. Sorry for the rant but sure pisses a guy off.

Nice bucks! What baffles me is the fact that you claim you were around a bunch of ignorant a-holes, and you're carrying a deer out on a pack that isn't marked, or flagged! Don't you think it would have been wise to put on some orange! When you pop over a ridge, what is the first thing someone watching from afar is going to see? Obviously the head of the deer, and by that time you're dead! Not to say in a million years I would ever do something like that, but there are a lot of morons out there. I don't think any more/less of the morons are rifle hunters though!

I can't speak for the season itself, and I hunt modern season, but it does seem as though most of the archers I know personally are a professional sort :dunno:. I mainly hunt Whidbey and some of the modern guys are here are a work. Saw a couple out with a pickup busting through the blackberries and brush (driving deer) last year, no doubt plastered drunk. I watched for a while they all limited out, but what a raunchy way to do it.

Chad S. That's why i don't rifle hunt. You have 3 people walking and a guy with a deer on his back, and you might have some MORON with a rifle not notice a deer on a pack and Two other people. Come on really. If i saw a deer come over a hill looking like that i think i would notice something is odd with the way he looks, and the other people walking around it??? COME ON!!!!!!!! Great job to the hunters.

Great job to the kids, and props to you for taking them out.

As for modern hunting thats the name of the game. Modern guns and modern ethics for some (if your not first your last :sry:) I can only speak from a few years of helping my buddies out hunting or after they have got one during modern.  We have had people claim it's their spot all the way to it's their deer! It is very interesting to watch two people fight about a dead animal to say the least.   Anyway you look at it you gotta find the humor of the Fast and furious pumpkin race.

It's your life, and you make your own decisions. Technically you didn't need to wear hunters orange, but neither did the kids after the "hunt" was over! From my observation, and what you posted, I would have never put myself in that position. You can say you knew your surroundings all you want, but reality is we're never fully aware of our surroundings! This is part of the reason I dont post too much on here. Posts, and replies get taken out of context way to often. To paraphrase; I think it's comical of you to call people a-holes, and say you hate rifle hunters, when you're blatantly ignorant yourself! I'll give you credit for at least making sure the kids were safe!

 :yeah:

It is not the rifle that make hunters like that. All user groups have people like that. Kinda like when you walk up on a bloated elk that's been dead for a few days with an arrow sticking of it....gives you a crappy feeling. I'm not trying to stir the pot, just trying to say all groups have their issues. Calling out different groups and lumping them together (as in rifle hunters, or bow or whatever) when something goes astray just irratates me.

For as long as I have been hunting and the different types of hunting I've done, If I thought about it I could trash ALL hunting types for one reason or another. That is why I say it is not the method but the type of people they are themselves.

just my  :twocents:

Very nices bucks though...congrats

Fun stuff, congrats!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, "WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!!"

Im ignorant myself for sayin I hate SOME rifle hunters?? Key word being (SOME). Looks to me like ur the ignorant one GROUPING SOME into ALL!
As for when i was packing the deer i was not in the same area as when i had the issue with the Aholes following us to our spot.
