Road kill ram
« on: October 22, 2012, 11:40:44 AM »
Heading back to camp Saturday night and came across an accident on 97 just south of Entiat river rd.  Some kids in a jeep hit this guy and rolled.  The kids were a little shaken up but seemed to be ok.  I could barely get my hands around the bases of his horns.  He looked to be a pretty decent ram.

Did somebody call and report it to WDFW?
I may be wrong, but if that was south of the Entiat River Road that is an area not typically inhabited by the sheep.  WDFW would really like to know about that, I'm sure.

South of Entiat River Road is where they live. See them all the time.

They are in there alot, that is where i seem to always see them.  WSP was on the scene, I would assume they contacted the proper people, The ram was not there the following morning.

Used to be pretty common, but that fence has really helped.  That is a nice ram

the department knows about it, it is the second or third one hit this month, not all were rams. They seem to be crossing above the Entiat end of the fence.

Heavy one for sure.  The jeep rolled?  Wow, I guess I'd be shook-up too.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Probably thirsty!   Not sure what they all have for water.  I know there are a couple spots on the other side of the fence.   I have no idea what any of the fires did for the area browse etc.   Pope would know more, he was part of the fence thing I think and also has been there earlier this season to photograph.

THey should stick that head in their little auction.    It will probably end up on some directors DESK, but man I bet it would fetch some money.   Looks as though he has big boys genes.

To bad, that's a nice ram!

Looks like they need to put up a sheep crossing sign in a less traveled area so the sheep can cross without getting hit.  :chuckle:

Saw the impact site yesterday driving by. Was a very large blood spot.  Looked like there was still a door in the ditch.
Also saw two rams on the hill right above one of the water holes. Not more than 50-60 yards off the highway.
