Rivers West

I have been wearing Rivers West gear for the last few years out hunting....Excellent stuff! 
Keeps you dry and warm when hunting the wet side, especially in the brush up here and when its 15F out...I'm toasty in my Rivers West!
Just thought I would toss this in about how good Rivers West gear is and how much I like it!

If you cover a lot of ground and are going to sweat you had better have the jacket/pants with vents in it.  I like the stuff for fishing from a drift boat or on days when it won't rain too much.  If it is a downpour it weighs a lot as it retains water.

You are right though in that if the conditions are suitable the stuff is warm and quiet.

I have a set and its about as good as a black plastic bag if you do any walking.  Save your money, go to Costco and buy a 50 pack of garbage bags then you have 25 sets of Rivers West Gear.  Sitting you may be fine but any activity and its a sweat box.

I agree X1000 I would much rather wear my rubber grundens at least it won't suck up and hold the moisture from both inside and out.

Even with the vents it is still too hot and almost zero beathability.  Great stuff if you just sit though.  Wear it on the salt while fishing and it is great.  Hunting, not so much.

You guys need to sweat less. I get the light season gear and wear it all seasons in Washington. Never have a problem overheating, and I put some serious miles in.

We call them Rivers WET!  Never been pleased with them.  They soak up water like a sponge and then are really heavy.  Sent them back multiple times because of their guarantee!  I finally gave up!  Always come back the same way.  They even replaced them once and I still get wet!  I would NEVER recommend them to anyone!

I totally agree. Been using RW for 5 years. I've tried everything else like Cabela's whitetail extreme $$ to Sitka gear. Gortex sucks, or anything of a kind, if you want to stay dry it can't be breathable. I use RW vents and pace myself so that I don't get a sweat-up. If your moving that fast your going to fast. If I have to hump in or out of an area quickly, I stuff it in my pack and put on some light weight packable rain-gear, if raining. My whole family and my hunting partners family use it. One thing I will mention though the older heavy weight material they use to use did hold water. Didn't get wet but like IBspoiled said it was a sponge. So I will use the heavy weight for when it's cold and snow. Sit down in the stuff and you don't have to worry about it soaking through like Gortex.  Just be smart about how you use it.

That interesting that they took your stuff back. When I had called them they told me they felt the vents gave sufficient breathability. Refused to take them back despite the warranty.

The stuff I had was the lightweight stuff as well. Absolutely could not wear it. Won't even wear it fishing.

yuppers Fester...I agree with you.  I pace my self so as not to sweat-up.  If you do....yup, your moving way too fast.  I layer up that way if I have to be on the move I can take off my RW coat and pack it.  Most often then not I am walking real slow sneaking around not running a foot race!
Here on the wet side RW works pretty darn good.

I think if your looking to hunt water fowl, great! If you can or drive right to your stand and you sit all day, great!!! If you plan on doing any type of hiking that involves inclines, brush and littered with wind fall, save your money.

unzip the vents, where a good polylongjohns, layer up and down and I'm good to go.
