trout lures

whats everyones favorite trout lures? I really like panther martin for streams and dardevil spoons for lakes. JB

size 0 blue foxes everywhere.

i really rather flyfish, but if i had to spin-fish...it would be all blue foxes. chrome or brass colored. no orange or green colors on them.

More often than not....1/8oz rooster tails.
Black with a silver blade most times...or sandstone or mayfly "pattern" bodies with silver blades.
I've caught more with these than anything...though it takes the right combo to be able to cast them well.

I use smaller panther martins from time to time, but w/o a swivel I get a lot of line twist with these. I've found some lakes fish don't seem to "tolerate" swivels.

Cheap 1/4oz pot-o-gold hammered brass spoons with the treble swapped to a single barb gamakatsu are a favorite as well.

I started fly fishing this year...and it's definitely more fun!

#3-#5 Blue Fox Vibrax or 1/4 oz Roostertails in chartruse/chrome or green/chrome for sea runs and silvers.  1/8 oz Roostertails in yellow/chrome, brown/chrome or black/chrome for all other trout.

power bait, still works wonders. i can still pull limit near my house with power bait. (know the secreete spot in the lake that always helps)

I had good success this year with the kastmaster spoons in the lakes casting from shore. I was able to cover a lot of water being able to cast 1/3 - 1/2 way across some of the smaller lakes and pick up a lot of trout.

MMmmm Hmmmm, I should've had kastmasters on my list.

The half blue (anodized) half chrome, or chrome with a blue sticker seems to be a killer in a lot of higher lakes too.

1/32nd black rooster tail, they are hard to find but deadly.

Blue fox's for sure. Also the ol' Super Duper's. Blue and orange in the spinners, Orange or reflectix on the super dupers... (They are a pain to cast in the rivers but have a nice little wiggle, real sexy...)

I have enjoyed some success with roostertails but more so with the panther martin. JB

I have not found a lure out there yet that has out fished my good old wedding ring with a little worm for trout. Mind you this is for trooling, it's not the best for casting but very productive. My 2nd choice would be a tossup between the kastmaster and blue fox vibrex.

Stocked lakes I fish pink wedding ring / silver metal with small worm,  cascade lakes & east side I stick with crocodile spoon in rainbow pattern.

In lakes trolling:
Wedding ring with gamakatsu hooks, with 1/3 nitecrawler or maggot.
Double Whammy with gamakatsu hooks, with 1/3 nitecrawler or maggot.
(sometimes add a 12in. three blade flasher string in front of either of these)

Kastmaster, various sizes and colors with gamakatsu hooks
Rapala, 3in or 4in.
powerbait minnows, 2in - 4in.
roostertails, various sizes and colors.
Flatfish/quickfish various sizes and colors.

Bank fishing:
My favorite setup is a minimum 24in (up to 36in) leader, orange or pink marshmallow on a long shank no.8 gamakatsu hook with a 1/2 nightcrawler threaded length wise up the shank to the marshmallow and leave a tail hanging. this setup has caught me more fish then all others combined.
Powerbait, multicolored with sparkles, or bright green or pink/purple. (I do not like using powerbait but sometimes it just works).

Stream fishing:
Eggs
fly with float
any tiny spinner

i like the kastmaster, and rooster tail when i can get the darn spinner to spin.

I fish almost exclusively high lakes.  I use Kastmasters, gold, silver, orange and silver, and the blue and silver.  I'll change colors, size, and retrieve and can almost always finds some combination that catches fish.  I use Pautzkes, wooly buggers, and other stuff, but I always give my Kastmasters first shot.  I also like the Jake's Spin-a-lure.
