Blues buck
« on: October 31, 2012, 11:12:46 PM »
Was hunting up in the blues did a diy drop camp from mtcook. Covered allot of ground the first two days and noticed that with the overly dry summer the feed was predominantly in the thick cover in draws. So on the third day i headed off to the thick stuff and after 2 hours of working down the draw i spotted two deer and put the binos on them. After several minutes of them feeding in tall brush one finally lifted his head and locked eyes with me. 4x5! slowly raise my rifle and its runs, i try and follow it through the scope and another deer right behind the first couldn't count his points went by in a blur. they were out about 250 yards and moved away quick so i figured id better pull out and let them cool off. I started pouring over the map and found a small drainage coming off the large one i was in, it was in the direction they were moving. So after about 2 hours i worked my way over to the smaller rainage following the tree line than begun working down in. About 500 yards in i hear noise and sit down and listen. after 15 min i pin point the location and off i go. after a few minutes buck! its about 300 yards and in thick cover to many trees branches brush in the way to shoot so the stalk i on. I get down to the bottom of the drainage and its mossy and easy to walk without making noise worked my way over to him and found a good down tree for a rest. whip out the range finder 225 easy breezy, but he is in line behind a tree and wont present a shot i mover side to side trying to find a shot but not enough clearance. the area I'm in now has allot of dry branches and i don't want to spook him so i wait hoping hell present a shot. after what seemed like 5 min he turns and takes a few steps and i let the 300rum rip. deer is in the air and now on the ground. Elation!

Great looking buck! Thanks for the story. I know bucks aren't easy to come by in the Blues.
