666 & 667?
« on: November 03, 2012, 05:29:36 PM »
Anyone hunt 666 or 667 during late muzzle elk?  Looking for something a little closer than driving all the way down to packwood and mossyrock?  Just curious if anyone has had success or sees elk in those unitss.  Thanks

Pockets of elk and from what I know, the elk don't move much in there.  At least the ones I kept track of didn't.  If you're bull hunting, you will need to work harder.  If you want to tag a cow in 666, you shouldn't have too much trouble as long as you find an area where they are but that could be the trouble.

It's not like farther south where they seem to be spread out everywhere.  I think I would go further south if you don't have a good spot yet in 666/667.  Mossyrock isn't that far unless 666 is already a long drive for you, in which case you probably live closer to some decent elk spots.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

hell holds elk but the big issue is access most of it is private ground, so the any elk sounds awesome but the reality is there is not tons of good public elk ground :twocents:

 :yeah:
There are a bunch of small localized herds that the locals have either already thinned out or are sitting on.  many of them get pushed onto private land where they are either safe or slaughtered.  You are much better off going farther West and South.   :twocents:

thanks for the input so far.  It is about a 2.5 hour drive for me to get into mossyrock or packwood.  Most of the area around where I live is now private and/or you have to buy the permit, and the elk hunting isn't that great anymore. I am looking to start fresh in a new area. Hoping to find something that has an early and late season. This state is starting to drive me crazy with all the regs. Sure would be nice to hunt deer and elk at the same time in the same unit. I have the multi season tag for deer and it looks like I will need to carry my bow for deer and ml for elk
