ya should of at least taken backstraps and two front quarters should of tagged too I believe. Not one for the it's all black and white type, but here they should of taken a bit more care before leaving it like that.
At the very least like others have said cut into it so smell the meat. If rancid then I might say ok, hunt again but not untill then.
I would ask too how experienced were they sounds like a rookie thing to me not sure.
