Nisqually River is hot
« on: September 12, 2008, 10:32:11 AM »
The Nisqually River is hot right now.  Fish are being caught some are shiny and some are dark, but they are biting and jumping.  I caught a king this morning that is still has lots of silver although small, but big enough to keep.

To late to post pics, he is already fillet and going in the oven, maybe next time.

Went again today Saturday on the river, lots of people.  I hooked up two but my line broke twice,  Lots of Jack's biting with lots of silver and darker chums

A buddy went down yesterday and said he got there at 4:20 am and there were too many guys there at that time to even want to jump in and fish.  He fishes it every year and said this was the worst he's seen it.

Yup, chum is coming in early.  I saw a guy bring one in, I had to look at the regulation book picture to make sure what it was and every one confirmed it was a chum

Wonder if there's a summer chum run on the Nisqually...I know the fall run is really late even for chums, like Dec-Jan.

I'm not sure if the Nisqually gets any summer chum or not. I know the Skok does....weird.

I have lived near and fished that river for almost 25 years and never heard of summer chum or that they were in much before Halloween.  :dunno:

But I do know it was hot last night. A buddy was supposed to help us butcher an elk and he was a couple hours late after a "short" stop at handicap. He hooked up with a large chinook that busted him off. Landed a dark silver and lost a couple more.

It was probably a dark hooknosed silver that he thought was a chum.  I also have fished around here for 25+ years and have never heard of  summer run chum in the Sound.

That was my thought. But it is funny to watch the "is it a chum or steelhead" debate in Nov down there. Friggin' morons. :chuckle:

Haaahhaaaa...  yeah, no kidding!  Kinda like the guys at Kennedy creek saying some of the chums are kings.  The tribe killed off that king run almost 30 years ago.
