elk hides?
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:13:58 AM »
Just got back from quail hunting around Selah and noticed a dozen or so elk hides dumped along side of the upper Wenas rd.  Someone must have done well lately

Tribes will usually take the hides (tan them and use 'em for stuff).

Pity they were dumped, I always liked hides.

If they were together maybe someone kept them with grand plans of tanning, and then they got sour or minds were changed, and they were just dumping them to get rid of them.

Seems more likely than poachers or someone with lots of success just dumping scrap. Would think in those situations there would be bone and other stuff......

SOunds like some local mice will have nice warm elk hair nests this winter.

Yeah last time I got an elk hide tanned hair on it was $200... That was years ago.... I have two of them.... Don't know why.. I was gonna tan this years little buck.. He had such a nice hide and skinned him all out nice... Still sitting in the freezer and might just get thrown over a stump in the yard...
