REM 700 trigger adjustment question
« on: November 29, 2012, 08:54:05 AM »
I have a modell 700 LVSS in 17 Remington. I use it for my primary coyote and bobcat gun. The factory trigger has a mile of creep before the trigger breaks. is there a way to clean it up and make it a little more crisp? The gun is already very accurate but i think a better trigger pull with make it a little better.

That trigger is fully adjustable...
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Depends on the trigger on how they will adjust but I have 2 that are excellent and one that won't adjust real good.  Most people will tell you to buy a aftermarket but for some that just isn't feasable.  The link below is what I use but make sure to do the safety check multiple times and be careful.  I think you can send the trigger to some smiths and they will rework it for around $50.

I have been using this method I found bellow for 10 plus years on all my Remington triggers. Other than the one's I just outright replace with a aftermarket trigger. Of course this is for the standard trigger that Remington used forever, I can't stand the new style triggers. I just replace the new style triggers with a Shilen or a Jewell.

Recommend weight is 3.5 to 4.5 pounds, not sure I would go lighter like quarterbore is suggesting.

Lock the bolt in the receiver and lay the weapon on its side so you can see the
adjustment window. While watching the adjustment window use a small flat tip screwdriver to turn the
Sear Engagement Screw clockwise until the Sear and Trigger meet in the middle of the window. The
trigger should be almost to the end of the sear. You are reducing the amount of movement the trigger
has before the sear is allowed to fall free. Manipulate the bolt and check the trigger again for excess
movement prior to sear release. Ensure that firing pin does not move forward when the bolt is locked, slam fire.

Then adjust the weight and last the overtravel.  After several test and you satisfied with operation of the trigger, reapple the loctite.
