Rufous' fall 2008 bear hunt
« on: September 06, 2008, 06:36:47 PM »
My main hunting buddy Mike and I went out opening day (last Tuesday the 2nd) for an evening bear hunt about a 20 minute drive out of town. We saw a sow and cub but they were across a big canyon and on property we did not have permission to hunt. We went out again early today to the same area and I called in a bear which Mike shot. We heard a bear run off after a bit of calling and so I went over in the direction the bear had traveled and called some more. At this point Mike and I were seperated by about 30 yards. I continued calling and eventually a bear came in again (not sure if it was the one that ran off or a different one). This time Mike was able to see it (it stood up looking at me but it was behind enough brush that I could not see it very clearly) and he took the shot. It was only about 15 yards from him. We could hear it breathing excitedly before he shot it. It was jazzed up looking for some thing to eat, namely me. Glad he shot it down before it got any closer to me. Here is a photo of Mike and the bear.
