GMU 627

So me and my hunting buddy found a nice honey hole in GMU 627, the only thing is that the darn black tails that live there only come out at night. We have tried everything from doe/ buck calls, waiting all day, and even doe estrus. I was wondering if anyone knows what is going on with the deer this year. Any help would be great because it is my first year hunting.

yeah they are blacktails and thats how they are, most difficult but addicting to hunt deer there is, is this your first year hunting for blackies? go hang a couple treestands and sit in them everyday possible, ya gotta be patient with the blacktail a souraus

Yeah this is the first year ever hunting anything. My friend has been hunting for 15yrs and he is even flustered. We have some tree stands and we have spent about 6 days total in them. We both are just so confused. We are thinking that the weather might be messing them up but who knows.

I think the same thing with the weather idea.  We got alot of hard rain quick, then went to blue bird skies and clear nights.  I'm hoping to see them moving here soon with our recent change.  We haven't seen squat in the woods for the last week around here either.  All I can say is get on some good sign, find a good tree, a coke, and a smile...it may take a while.

Stillhunting is one of the best ways to kill a big blacktail. My dad has killed a few this way.

Still see a ton of deer out moving between two and four in the morning...I think they are still on there internal hunting season clock. The past years ive noticed they start calming down and moving around in daylight the first part of December...patience is required for blackies in the late season  Good luck to you filling your tag and have fun!!!

Yes, we have been still hunting and we have seen nothing except a doe the size of a pug. We are planning to go down this weekend to attempt it again. Thanks a lot for the info about the internal clock thing. I hope that the weather will make the deer come out a little earlier because it’s not looking so good my fellow archers. Here is to this weekend having a bow in hand, a fresh can or chew, and a set of antlers on the wall.

after the first rut or the first estrus cycle whatever you want to call it, bucks go into a real slugish state, one of the best ways is to get one of you up in a treestand on a really good trail and the other get out and still hunt all over your area, what that will do is get them up out of their beds and move around, chances are you wont even hear them, but it is a very effective method

maybe you guys are in a place that gets alot of pressure and all you are gonna get is night time deer. the brush pickers are working along bear creek dewatto road and tiger mission and gold creek roads. not sure if that makes a difference or not but i am betting them guys aint too quiet while they work.

Everything can change in a matter of seconds. Be patient, stay out there dawn till dusk. Give yourself very opportunity to see one. Only takes one. I think Jackmaster is onto something...Sit mornings, one guy still hunt midday, sit afternoons. Good Luck!

I will say still hunting big blacktails is an art, not a hunting style. Theres so much finesse when it comes to catching the pacific ghost in his bedding area. They rarely ever bust unless your literally right on top of them. When you think your going slow, go slower. There obviously in there. Just keep at it.

i try real hard to stay in the woods from dark till dark and i stop frequently and scan the area around me with the binos real good. this is only my 3rd year hunting ever and i am 38 so i started way late trying to figure it out. I am learning alot by asking what i hope are not dumb questions or asking for too much info.

Is the honey hole you mention been brush picked lately?? Some of my areas WERE great for day time activity in Kitsap and Mason UNTIL they were overan with brush pickers for up to a few weeks at a time oe even more... Even one day with half a dozen in the brush making all kinds of racket could kill an area... Some of my favorite spots that I HAD in these units I will no longer even bother... The *censored*ty part is they are the closest to my home except one spot that hasn't been molested yet... Other then that it's Kitsap... Very limited areas to hunt... Don't think that just cause you found it for archery that there hasn't been anybody else hunting it.... I'm sure it's been ran through by pickers or hunters before unless it's private... But that doesn't mean much nowadays if it's accesable from the road or joining properties... Good luck and don't give up..     Maybe get farther in away from access points if at all possible... Sounds like they are avoiding where you're at until after dark... It's because they know....

yeah  , the pickers have been in there for 2 solid weeks every day and before that even from what i gather from a buddy. it was a grassy  narrow valley in the middle of a thick patch of reprod and i had never in my life seen more buck rubs and turd piles in one place ever. i will say it was RIGHT next to the tiger lake boat access.
