Margaret late archery (help)
« on: November 28, 2012, 08:34:20 PM »
I was asked to help out on this hunt. We will be staying in Kid Valley. I have never steped foot in this unit, so I have no idea where to go. They hunted the early season, but we're locked out because of fire danger. I'm going to go up and look around. I have no idea where to start or what is open to entry. The tag is for any bull and we will not be picky.  Any info would be a great help

Did the tag holder get the access packet from WDFW? It tells you where to go, how to get there, what gates, ect.......Probably would have recieved it back in July.

I dont have mine in front of me, or I'd tell you the roads and gates. Seems like its the 1900 or such that heads up off 504 just east of Toutle. I may be totaly wrong on the road number. I could tell you better tonight after I get home if I remember to.

I know rifle guys that had good luck in the area betwen the highway and the Toutle river. Think thats off the 2500 road....

More or less drive the highway up out of Toutle and the access points should be fairly obvious.

Margaret bulls this size are a dime a dozen. There are a few in there in the 270 to 300 range, maybe bigger. You could maybe afford to look around a little.

There are several roads past kid valley for access. The main one I use is the 3100. I wouldn't mind helping you guys out. I had the archery bull tag and my sister had the rifle cow tag this year. There are plenty of bulls but hope your friends not gonna be picky this time of year

the section in the monument along the lake from the sw to nw corner is off limits according to wdfw
thats were i wanted to hunt for my permit but a week before the season got a map saying that whole side of the ridge was shut down on the west side of the lake
you could take the trail way back like 4 miles and get past the closure but make sure you hunt to the left of your trail for it is the boundary of your unit
pretty rough I believe

I have my packet now.

Yes everything along coldwater from 504 to Minnie peak and the junction of the 211 and 230 is a no shoot zone.

The beggining of the 2500 road is private and no entry. The 2502 is suposed to offer alternate entry to the 2500 system.

The road map they give you isnt that great but I'll try and relate what it looks to have:

Along 504 the 2502 system looks to provide access at 2 gates. One a few miles east and one a few miles north of the Hoffstadt bluff center.
Just east of the that the 3100 road system looks to have an access gate.
And then maybe the 3200 system just east of the Forest learning center.
Much further east of that and I believe you get into the private tree farm lands. I know the 35XX road has the Tree farm signs on it.

I believe there is also a road west of what the packet map covers that more or less runs up the Green river. I believe this is the 1900, but may be some other 1000 series road???

The access packet suggests there will be volunteers manning gates,a dn active logging areas ect... trying to keep things smooth. I'm not sure all that applies to the archery hunt though.

Good luck and post pics of what you get!

Does the FS 26 come down to 504?  I don't hold a tag but I am a little curious as I have been up that way before but not real familiar with the area.
