Mayfield and kapowsin
« on: September 11, 2008, 12:24:39 PM »
Last Saturday the wife and my two sons drove down to mayfield Lake to do some fishing. What beautiful day to fish. Started off real slow with my youngest catching a few Squaw fish. I usually gut them and leave them for the ospreys but my wife thought that was cruel.....so I released them grudgingly, lol. We were trolling a 12 in. flasher string with a double whammy and a piece of nitecrawler. We started with 1 oz. of weight but did not get many hits so I replaced the 1oz bananas with 3 large splits (approx. 1/2 ox.) and that did the trick. We caught 6 keepers, one Kokanee about 12 in., and 5 rainbow between 16 and 18 in. We started to get sunburned so headed home with enough for a good dinner.

On Tuesday my oldest son Chase and I took of after work to Lake Kapowsin. I live about 15 minutes from this lake and have never fished it before. Well I was not very impressed with Kapowsin. Tons of logs and the trout were not biting. I did hook into a very large trout that I lost at the boat. And caught one good sized Bluegill and one Perch. "if" we go back to Kapowsin I will try casting bait (trolling this lake is not much fun.)

Anyone else have any luck at kapowsin?

And if anyone has any recent Alder Lake fishing reports please post them. I will be running down for Kokanee hopefully this week

I fish it alot Ive got a hancock permit and put in on the other side.I like the stumps in there. The fishing has sucked there the last year trout wise. They say they plant it .I just use my 12 ft columbia and electric motor.there are some huge blackbass in there.when Im trolling I use flashlites 3ft leader and a whole night crawler put on with a worm wand works well when theres fish.those flash lites I use i can troll very slow, the drag on those are minimal I use a noodle rod.got skunked at mineral monday first time ever.I live off 264th so its close.

I havent fished it since april-may 08' but my buddy and i were knocking them dead by trolling with an Uncle Walts lure (Basically an oversized wedding-ring) with a worm on the first hook-it worked great, i believe we were using the firetiger blades and chartrues blades.
I didnt have any fancy gear, just a 3-4 foot leader and a standard slide on weight.

also we got a few hits from trolling Rapala divers.

We fished the whole lake end to end, but the western edge of the lake seemed to have the least amount of stumps.

I dont like the stumps with Rebar sticking out of the water a little bit :yike: luckily theres some weatherd surveyers tape so they can be seen
