new crew cab 4x4.. Ford? Chevy?
« on: December 18, 2012, 12:32:21 PM »
OK so looking to replace my old truck one of these days soon. Problem is the age my kids are getting to be, it kind of needs to be a crewcab, and all the new trucks I look at seem to have problems. The newer chevy's seem to have shifting/clunking/transmission problems, and the new fords have similar problems. There were even apparently a batch of 2011 F150's with faulty transmission pumps or something-where they would dump nearly all their trans fluid on the side of the road.. I've always had Fords, and i've seen way more problems with dodges over the years than any other brand. I tend to lean towards the Chevy, because they offer 21-22mpg highway with the 5.3, and the only ford that comes close is the new hopped up V6 (which is not available in the supercrew4x4)... I know everybody has Brand loyalty, but it's aggravating to see both brands having problems, What do you all think?

Buy the Ford RAPTOR crewcab! they don't have problems and you can jump them!

For comfort I prefer Chevy over Ford. My dad has had a 2006 f150 and now has a 2012 with the eco boost. They are both boxy and uncomfortable to me. My mom has a 2007 Tahoe, I know not brand new, but its WAY nicer to drive. Sight lines are much nicer and the interior is much more comfortable.

Maintenance and performance wise neither takes the cake IMO. If I had to choose though I would go Chevy, I prefer the ride over Ford

Buy a Tundra and be done with it   Seriously though, if you haven't test driven one you should take one for a spin before you make up your mind.

Go look at a Nissan Titan Pro 4X, very nice truck with lots of leg room front and rear.

I like Ford and Chevy best out of all the new trucks.  And you can get the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost in the Super Crew 4X4.  All of the F150 models have the option of the ecoboost.  The Ford F150 w/ Ecoboost will haul more and has better payload capacity than the Chevy...........I'd give the edge to the Ford. :twocents:

I've thought about the tundra, but never really looked at one, I dont think it will be discounted as much as the ford or chevy, would probably cost several grand more. (but i'll look) I have a friend that has a z71 ext cab with the 5.3, and he gets about 22mpg on the highway- guess I need to drive one and see about the ride. The Titan has had it's share of problems, rear differentials, brakes, etc. and when i looked at milage ratings and such on line, the titan was the worst, with city mileage of like 12mpg.. the titan and the dodge can be gotten the cheapest.. but I tend to keep a truck 10 years or more, and I want something that will last...

I will agree on the duramax. Had an 04 with 135000. Never had a problem with it. Got 21 MPG after installing a chip and exhaust. Can't beat the ride of a Chevy.

In the 4.6 it's doable, I averaged 17.5 with mine before I swapped tires. With the 5.7 no way it's possible.
