Sweet spot for AR in 6.8 spc?
«

Anyone reloading for this cartridge/gun? What has been your experience for lighter "varmint" type rounds and for "deer" rounds? Any factory ammo that is better than others?
Thanks.

I think with factory ammo, it will be like any rifle... you are gonna have to shoot it to see what it likes. I think I would start with Hornady or Remington/UMC.. then go from there.

I reload for the 6.8. Deer hunted with it this year. Got a bunch of 100 grain ABCs (Arizona Bullet Company) in a trade with a friend, and they shoot well enough. Don't think ABC is in business any more. Loaded up some 90 grain TNTs and they were fast and accurate, but being loaded shorter, they dipped down out of my PRI mags before hitting the feed ramps, and sometimes I'd get a jam. What I'm really excited about getting is the wildcat 6.8 necked down to 6mm. Got a 20" barrel for that on order.

I'm guessing you pretty much have to order bullets online? Wholesale had a tiny selection and they were all quite heavy. Would the all copper bullets be better than lead since they'd be longer? I'll have to get my reloading stuff set up again.

115 grain is about as heavy as the 6.8 wants. Heavier bullets might be OK for working up a sub-sonic load, but overkill otherwise. Most of the bullets you will see in stores are the 130 and 150 grain pills for the 270 Winchester round.
