Anyone with a special 550 unit bull tag?
« on: January 07, 2013, 08:38:11 AM »
I have a regular herd of elk on my property. They are here every morning until about 8:30.
One is a big spike bull with really bad hoof rot and can barely walk.
Rather than have the coyotes get him, I would like a licensed hunter to harvest him.
Please respond if you need to fill a tag and I will take you to them.
Of course it would be nice if you offer to share the meat with me.
I am waiting on a call-back from WDFW to go over other options for this poor guy.
Thank you.

I don't think there are any bull permits right now. Even if there were, a spike wouldn't be legal. Hopefully the WDFW can send out someone to dispatch it, or allow you to do so.

Thanks bobcat, I hope WDFW can come dispatch it.
It is in a lot of pain and will die a painful death.
It only has one spike, if it sheds it I will update this thread to an antlerless tag.

Just a guess, but I think the WDFW will say something like it's best to let nature take its course.

Sad, sad.  I hope somebody can harvest this elk.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

If the location on your profile is correct Im only about 30min from you. If WDFW says you can "harvest" it give me a shout, I would be more than willing to help dress and pack it if you wanna split some of the meat. I have my hunting licence but my bow tag is expired. non the less Im normaly a good grunt.

That is EXACTLY what WDFW told me.

thats a damn shame, its better to let an animal suffer a long cold death, thats friggin great  :bash: :bash:, i thought they had a list of master hunters for situations like this, in this day and age there is no reason for an animal to die a slow painful death...... :bash: :bash:

This was mentioned and I neither condone nor encourage but it would be a darn shame to have a stray round catch him in the ear. I hate to hear of any animal suffering. Almost not worth even have a master hunter, youth, disabled, etc. hunter take him. A mercy killing is in order. Yeah I know, let nature take its course. Easy to say when you don't have a suffering animal to see every day. Sad thing.
