Peep Sight Question
« on: January 06, 2013, 04:02:41 PM »
I shot a bear last year while elk hunting in the timber but when I drew my bow I had a hard time seeing thru my peep in the dark timber.  I shoot right handed and my right eye is weak but I really dont want to buy a left handed bow.  Any different setups or something I should look into.  Maybe get rid of string peep?  Thanks

I have no experience with the "no peep" but based on your situation I would consider getting a peep with a larger hole/aperture.

But really, if you ever decide to trade up to a different bow you should strongly consider trying out a left-handed bow next time.  The dominant eye should drive the choice of how to shoot.  Although I am right-handed in everything I do my left eye is dominant so I shoot left with both gun and bow.  You might think it would be a difficult transition but I found it to be very easy and I am able to shoot any weapon with both eyes open this way.

What diameter peep do you have on your bow? I have a 1/4 and don't have any problems seeing through it even if the string stretches a little and the peep doesn't line up all the way.

I also use a 1/4 peep for hunting. I do a 3/16 for the rest of the year. What size is yours? Try going up one size. If that doesn't work, look into the Anchor Sight or Perry's No peep.

1/4" is the best size for me, if you need bigger g5 makes a 5/16". If you line up your peep with the pin guard then you get a large field of view with great accuracy.

Had similar situation but was shooting from a ground blind and was last 15 minutes before shooting hours were up.  After that, switched to the Anchor Sight.  www.archeryinnovations.com.  I also wear glasses which would have to look out of corner of my glasses to line up the peep previously.

I have shot for 10 years now with no peep.  I have a nock on the string at peep level.  The nock and string create a cross with the sting running up and down and the nock left to right.  I put the pin that I am using in the upper left corner of where the nock and string meet.  When the pin get right to the inside corner of where they meet I am on.  This has worked well for me over the past 10 years for low light conditions and icy/snow/wet conditions when the peep will sometimes fill with moisture.  The problem that I am now having is as I get older my close vision is getting worse so the nock string intersection is not as crisp of a picture for me to line up on.  I am thinking of going back to a peep for this reason and if I do I think I will get a larger diameter peep to help with low light and moisture build up.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

The optic "no peep" is an awesome addition to a bow to get rid of your peep sight.  Another option, though quite spendy, is to get one of the sights that has the built-in no peep optic  on it.

Thanks for the input. I am using a 1/4" peep now.  Who makes a sight like you are talking about.

http://www.archeryinnovations.com/  This is one similar to what I used.

The IQ bowsite is the one with the built-in  no peep thing.  http://www.iqbowsights.com/

I can't find the exact model I have as it looks like the dot on the IQ but is shaped more like the other one.  I think it is one of the first generation of these things as I have had it quite a while.
