Just moved here where to go?
« on: January 11, 2013, 09:33:20 AM »
Just moved to Washington living in the SW looking for some where I can do some High Country hunting near bye any areas where I could go for deer and elk during archery season. Appreciate all the info I can get.

Welcome.....

One of the best tools on the site is the little search feature. There are quite a few threads that will have a ton of info regaring gear lists and tips, areas, pics, and the like.

Look at the Packwood and Lewis River units. They are both in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, so almost 100% public land, and no need to worry about it being closed during the early season due to fire danger like private timberlands often are. There are less animals in the National Forest than there was 20 years ago, but if you want high country, that's where you need to go.

Pretty much find the high country anywhere outside the national parks and go for it.  For general seasons, you'll find most of the national forest land is open on the westside.  You won't get many specifics on here, but that's OK because half of the fun is finding it.  Try to find the lesser-traveled areas.  I literally spend about 4 hours a week on Google Earth and studying topo maps looking for the perfect spot.

Lots to explore out there - welcome to WA!

Welcome to Wa,home of the Rain and I dont know what else trees.Easiest way is just to get a map and explore. There is alot to hunt on that side of the mtns.EAST, WEST and so on. Our hunting book here tells harvest numbers of areas, learn them around where your at and get maps of those GMU's at any "GOOD" hunting store.Thats how I learned the Westide, now I'm learning the Eastside, different ball game over here.Good Luck
Is it waterfowl season yet..............

I know alot of people will agree with me on this one. I have spent 3 years and put on more miles in sub par areas hiking the mountains in this state to find a decent spot. Most people wont tell you where to go after putting in the work up front. Grab yourself some maps, use the computer, and lace up the boots.

Hey ZB, welcome to Washington.  Where are you from originally?  What type of hunting did you do there?
