2009 Youth Turkey Hunting?
« on: September 18, 2008, 02:12:54 PM »
My oldest daughter is bugging me to go turkey hunting this next spring.  I need to research the youth seasons, etc., but was wondering if anyone has any useful information that I may not get through the normal channels at the WDFW.

Like what?

The youth seasons are a weekend only and they start a week before the General season.  I'm not sure if this is what your asking though since this can be had through normal channels.

Youth season is the best time to hunt. Birds are very callable, not henned up. Stevens County, talk to farmers.

anywhere north of Spokane is great. we talked to a game warden over there last year and he told us to call the office in Spokane and they have a list of private land owners that you can contact for hunting their lands. the list is pretty long i guess and they welcome hunters. my buddy locked down some private land for us to hunt and my son ended up getting two birds that youth season. I have found from experience over there that the land owners that tell you no at first, most change their minds when they find out it is for your sons or daughters and not the adults.

I can hardly wait for my daughter to be old enough. Last year I had 3 toms located that weekend that dissapeared when it was my turn.... If you want to try this side next spring (your daughter)  I could show you where they were.

It is a freaking blast. I loved taking my younger brother. They didn't have that when I was a youth. You could hunt all over and not run into any other guys. Northeast, before they get called to, phenomenal.

The last couple years we have had a guided youth hunt available at our NWTF Hunter Heritage Banquet and they have been sold very cheap.  Last years hunt came with a professional video of the hunt and a certificate to have a bird mounted.  Once I know more about this years banquet I will post details here.  All I know so far this year is the date and location.  March 28 at the Puyallup fair grounds.  Stay tuned for more info soon!
