So what the hell does executive orders mean then? I know some of what's been said here online and on the news, but still dont know all of what it means?
Did he just ban so called assault weapons, but still had to pass the house and senate?
er from other sources he could still by pass them all together?
was this ban just like the last or was it more types? er is it even a ban yet?
how close to feinsteind bill is this or at all?
are pissed yet? er what? lack of anything going on guess the pen or whatever is still effective?

Just a bunch of executive orders.

Quote
1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

If you read them closely, they are mostly fluff (like appoint an ATF head) to make it appear that he is doing something.  It appears among people who follow such things that this is a dog and pony show for the hardcore gun grabbers. What likely transpired was that the House and Senate Dems told him that they'd get slaughtered and perhaps lose the Senate in the mid-terms over any outrageous proposals.

The only thing that these things have in common is that none of them would have prevented Sandy Hook, while the only thing that might have lessened the bodycount is the incentives for schools to hire resource officers (a/k/a armed guards).  Funny that.  The NRA proposal that the opposition demonized as absurd, and for which the NRA beat Obama to the punch, now appears in the EO list.

As far as EO's go, read here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_order

The short answer is the EO's just direct agencies to do stuff, but such agencies are not allowed to make and enforce rules beyond the authority granted to them by duly enacted statutory law (ideally).  They can try, but lawsuits usually follow and block implementation temporarily or permanently while the courts sort it out.

For all his bluster to take extra-constitutional action and unilaterally outlaw weapons, magazines, or private transactions by bypassing congress, none of these EOs appear at first glance to do any of that.

All proposed legislation (such as the Feinstein bill) still has to pass the House and Senate.

I seen on infowars.com that some if this if going to make this a snitch culture which already is. I told my wife not to answer any DR'S questions on guns mom neither. so now we have basiacaly a gun czar like mcaughty is/was  :bash:
however his names is spelled  :sry: :chuckle:
I see some very dangerous language here personally. center for disease ctrl could indeed be far reaching. I just bet this is just the tip. this gives the states or whatever the leverage they need to disarm people. probelem i see is that anyone who ever went for  an evalutation would or could be deemed unable to have a firearm even if that individule passed what ever test or exam.
I've seen some on here that have concerns over that.
ok well thanks ya id seen those but wanted some feedback.

Quote
In Monty Python’s “Lumberjack” sketch, a reluctant, nervous, and possibly psychotic barber pretends to cut his customer’s hair. Taking a solitary snip in the air, he proclaims that his job is done. Don’t be ridiculous old fellow, complains his charge. “I know when a chap’s cut my hair and when he hasn’t. So will you please stop fooling around and get on with it?”

Joe Biden might well have a similar conversation with the American public, for his gun-control commission has taken a comparable attitude toward its work. Tasked with the grandiose goal of making sure that an incident such as Sandy Hook “cannot happen again,” it has issued its report impossibly fast — one month and done.

Quote
If the White House believes an “assault weapons” ban or a restriction on the size of magazines is imperative, then it should steadily make that case and extend its time frame to years rather than months. Instead, it looks likely to go for a combination of very minor quick wins and larger symbolic gestures that it knows full well will die in Congress. What, a cynic might ask, are its real aims are here?

Quote
At the end of Monty Python’s sketch, the terrified barber pulls out a tape machine, onto which he has recorded idle chatter and the sound of scissors clipping. For a minute or so, this fools his customer into believing that he is actually getting a haircut. Joe Biden’s phony commission might have convinced some Americans that the Obama administration was acting in good faith, too. But anybody who has watched it go about its business over the last month will realize that it has been merely snipping in the air.

The EO's don't amount to much and is purely a political move to appear as motion to the public.

I don't see Harry letting this get through the senate, him and several other Dems that have good ratings with the NRA can't risk it with several seats coming up in 2014. :twocents:

In the end Obama doesn't really want this either. If this were to happen he would lose enough house and senate seats that he would ultimatelyend up a lame duck POTUS that couldn't get anything done.

Just because a doctor HAS to ask a question, doesn't mean you HAVE to answer it.  Like the guy that was worried that he would get into trouble for not answering the census questions.  They can't shut down the drug house across the street from me, and they are going to send police to arrest me for not answering a form?  HAH!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

You know what the sad thing is,his bs is working. There are people out there who are giving their rights to the government no questions asked.  I always wondered how hitler was able to come to power, not saying Obama is evil like him, but some people won't put up a fight, they just bow down and hand over their freedoms willingly, with no second thoughts.  It's very disturbing.

I've got a feeling the second Obama's out of office things will be put back to how they belong. When the next election time comes around I hope that the electives will actually see how wrong it is what they're doing and try to plead that, To actually get elected into the next seat. Could be bogus, Lets just hope whoever is our next so called "leader" actually has a head on they're shoulders and isn't just a government puppet.

It's a bill the guy always submits. It has zero percent chance of happening and isn't even worth discussing. People do realize the Republicans currently hold the House and that both chambers of Congress have to approve legislation (even more stringent for amendments), right?

Then what are you saying?

I said that being worried about proposed legislation is a moot point because it has to be approved by both chambers of Congress, as part of the process, to which you responded with "yeah right." So yes, you did say something of the sort.

You then went on to say that Obama does not need to go through Congress to get things done his way. Again, the only way to be elected for a third term is by amending the Constitution.

Unless, of course, you believe a constitutional convention will be called to amend it. But you'd then have to get 3/4 of the states to approve. Regardless, it's not going to happen.

Any other argument is absurd and defies logic, thus a waste of my time.

All this posturing is for the media.  It's the Socialist way, it does not matter that what you have proposed does nothing as long as you can sell it to the main stream media.  They are looking for a way to capitalize on a catastrophe.
The premise of socialism;
Government control.
 Politics of emotion.
Collective safety over individual freedom.

It’s time we start labeling them correctly, they are not “Liberals” or “progressives” they are socialists and many boarder on being communist.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

maybe that's right these 23 executive didn't do much at this time, but if you look closer what these did was proprogate the culture war on guns, and even deeper still there is enough here and on other laws like the NDAA and war on terrorism that could and prolly will lead to gun confiscation. maybe not mass confiscation but individuley it can or will. To look at how people are viewing us right now were a bunch of terrorists so ya it will.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
